Sr. Network Engineer
The responsibility of this position is for designing, implementing and supporting the data communication infrastructure used to support Grainger’s business objectives. This position will ensure maximum availability, reliability, and performance of related infrastructure, systems and network-related applications.
An Engineer is required to possess knowledge of Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) concepts and related hardware and software. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with technologies such as DWDM, DMVPN, routers, layer 2-7 switches, load balancers, application optimization, DNS, network management platforms, network protocols like IPv4 and IPv6, wireless networking technologies and security, and the ability to track and trace problems using network packet captures.
They must be familiar with WAN technologies such as MPLS, T1, DS3, DWDM and Ethernet, and should exhibit a strong understanding of LAN concepts such as trunking, spanning tree, QoS, Multicast, layer 2 and layer 3 switching, virtual port channels, virtual switching, and BGP, EIGRP and OSPF routing protocols.
Advanced Engineering includes network capacity planning, network performance and measurement skills, ability to resolve complex problems, strong network management knowledge, diagnostics and debugging, an understanding of distributed systems management techniques, and an understanding of change management and problem management concepts. Must be able to design, document, implement, and support stated data network technologies. Working knowledge of server OS’s such as VMWare, Windows, and UNIX skills are a plus.
