The Sr. Operations Engineeris responsible for development, implementation, standardization and continuous improvement of operations and fulfillment processes. Responsibilities will also include development and implementation of project plans which include facility and fulfillment layout design, automation, and system integrations that improve quality, productivity and costs. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Applies knowledge of technical concepts and theories used by professionals in developing a fulfillment/production operations road map.
  • Create manufacturing and fulfillment processes and procedures.
  • Identify, budget, and purchase capital equipment needed to meet improvement goals in processes, quality and capacity as necessary.
  • Evaluate new equipment designs for fit and function.
  • Facilitate completion of prototype and pilot production units to meet schedule requirements.
  • Develop and implement standardized Best Practices in multiple locations.
  • Design and implement facility layouts.
  • Create data collection schemes.
  • Develop and refine business processes.
  • Provide management direction on complex technical issues.
  • Communicate concisely with peers and management (Status, issues, ideas and areas for improvement).
  • Evaluate and analyze data acquired during system and module test using programs such as MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Make recommendations for design and process modifications based on analysis.
  • Work on assignments that are generally not routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is expected.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction, and adapts easily to change.

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing principles and their use in pick, pack and parcel shipping environments
  • .Solid understanding of statistical methods and process control
  • .Ability to evaluate and analyze data using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office programs
  • .Strong communication skills at all levels of the company - Technicians to Management
  • .Must be able to travel 25% of the time
  • .Able to work with personnel from various departments - Manufacturing, Engineering, Tech Development, Quality, Procurement, Human Resources and so forth
  • .Ability to recommend (using data) and implement sound solutions and strategies in a fast paced environment where priorities change often
  • .Ability to solve difficult problems and separate symptoms from root causes
  • .Able to create project schedule plans with MS Project, and complete tasks on schedule
  • .Able to create and analyze Bills-of-Materials
  • .Able to learn and apply new information or skills.
  • Lead, coordinate & inspect facility design & construction efforts between internal teams and outside vendors to develop optimal solutions, including equipment specification, material flow, process design, and site layout.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science is preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering; Optical Science; Physics).
  • Multiple years of experience with process design in a manufacturing and distribution environments.
  • Experience with in high volume pick, pack and ship environments.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Experience in the development and construction of Distribution Centers preferred.
  • Exposure to Lean Concepts, layout design, cost/benefit analysis, labor productivity analysis (time studies, standardized work), safety/ergonomic/human factors.
  • Strong Project Leadership skills and/or certification in project mgmt.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, interpret and develop general operating plans.
  • Ability to write business correspondence and employee performance reviews.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal departments including IT, Finance, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, Merchandising and Marketing in order to carry out the needs of the business.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees, vendors and other associates of the organization.

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role may be exposed to the following: heavy machinery, dust, noise, frequent and sustained walking and/or standing for prolonged periods of time, lifting up to 50 lbs. and repetitive activities, including but not limited to, pulling, pushing, grabbing and hand motions.
