Job Description Summary

Caterpillar’s Digital Asset Management (DAM) team is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to manage a range of development and infrastructure elements that enable our marketing content management solution, the “Consolidate Asset Library” (CAL). The CAL application serves the Caterpillar enterprise as the safe source of marketing assets and material. The platform serves both Caterpillar employees and Dealers around the globe. The position provide offers a rewarding opportunity to develop creative technical solutions that enable platform stability, quality and velocity. This position will work closely with the DAM product owner and various stakeholders across the organization. JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Software Engineer provides technical leadership and support for in-house and purchased applications to solve business problems.  A successful candidate must have a strong understanding of technology and agile software development with experience developing and supporting applications.

 

JOB DUTIES: 

  • Communicate with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness.
  • Lead IT implementation projects – act as a technical lead and coordinate the delivery of work requests with various globally located Caterpillar IT teams and external partners
  • Collaborate with business partners to gather functional requirements for new projects or systems enhancements, create technical designs and implement IT solutions that deliver high quality internal and external web applications
  • Prepare, execute and/or coordinate the execution of the Product Testing and the System Integration Testing
  • Provide IT support during the User Acceptance Testing
  • Work with IT team to ensure creation and maintenance of system documentation
  • Work with IT team to create and maintain IT support processes
  • Lead the issue resolution process with globally located Caterpillar IT support teams and external partners
  • Working directly on application / technical problem identification and resolution, including off-shift and weekend support functions
  • Share functional knowledge of IT solutions with business partners to support their operational performance

 

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or Electrical engineering or related field is required from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight years or more of software development experience or at least five years of experience with master’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Advanced experience with systems integrations, design, developing in programming languages, specifically: Java, HMTL, CSS, XML, and Javascript, 
  • Must demonstrate solid knowledge of computer science fundamentals like data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Expert knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery

 

Top candidates will also have:

  •  Proven experience in many of the following,
  •  Expert knowledge of related infrastructure components and/or operating environment, especially MS Windows application servers
  •  Datastores such as DynamoDB, Aurora PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch, MySQL, Oracle.
  •  Experience deploying and maintaining software using public clouds such as AWS or Azure.
  •  Working within an Agile framework (ideally Scrum).
  •  Experience designing well-defined Restful APIs
  •  Experience writing API proxies on platforms such as Apigee Edge, AWS API Gateway or Azure API Manager
  •  Hands one experience with API tools such as Swagger, Postman and Assertible
  •  Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints.
  •  Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment.
  •  Demonstrated leadership on medium to large-scale projects impacting strategic priorities.
  •  Familiarity with digital asset management or adaptive media delivery tools is a plus.
