Department OverviewThe Unified Communications team has a mission to become the leader in creating a highly scalable software platform and communication applications for first responders and industrial workgroups. Our customers rely on these solutions to run their critical business operations in the public safety, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. Every single day, we are shaping the future of mobile workgroup solutions for public safety and industrial users worldwide leveraging Motorola’s rich heritage in this space. Our solutions include broadband Push to Talk (PTT), multimedia messaging, location based collaboration, video streaming with full interoperability with land mobile radio (LMR) systems. The products include client apps on Android, iOS, and Windows. Our backend software can be deployed On-Prem, in private data centers, or in a public cloud infrastructure.

The Cloud Infrastructure team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on AWS to build at scale. 

The Cloud Infrastructure team is responsible for:

~Design and implementation of the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline into multiple public cloud regions

~Development and operation of common platform services that can be leveraged by our SaaS solutions moving forward

~Overall reliability and security of these services and the environments they are run in

~Monitoring and support for these platform and infrastructure services, as well as metrics collection and reporting related to them

As a senior engineer on this team, you will be a key contributor to platform development activities. Our teams are developing services, tools, and processes to support other Motorola Solutions' engineering teams as well as deliver solutions to our customers. You will be working on a high-velocity, results-oriented team that leverages cutting-edge technologies and techniques. The right individual will be motivated and will have a passion for automation, deployment processes and enabling innovation. Your efforts will help to shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise organization.

Responsibilities will include:

• Scope, design, and development of custom software solutions utilizing the Elastic Stack and Kubernetes on Azure.

• Operation of an ElasticSearch cluster used by our services 

• Develop automation tools and services to minimize delivery time and increase developer productivity.

• On-call and night and weekend work are occasionally required for services developed by the team

Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science (or equivalent degree) with 5+ years of professional software development

• Experience with development of custom network services (HTTP, WebSockets, or similar)

• Experience with building applications against and operating an ElasticSearch cluster.

• Familiarity with modern development operations tooling (Trace based application performance monitoring, docker containers, and similar)

• Experience mentoring more junior team members and leading development work by example

• A working understanding of at least one server side language (Java or JavaScript preferred)

• Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer

Preferred Qualifications

• A background in Linux/Unix Administration

• Prior experience being on-call for services developed by the team

• Demonstrated experience developing and deploying services on Microsoft Azure

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.
