Department Overview
The Northeast Solution Architects team is a group inside the Mid Atlantic (T2 and T3) System Integration (SI) engineering organization with experts of various disciplines. This team provides skill-specific focus to engineers and program managers for public-safety mission-critical projects.
Job Description

The candidate for this position will be responsible for the on-site integration of mission critical public safety software applications and networks. Working with the lead project engineer, program manager, and stakeholders, the candidate will lead the integration of Motorola and third-party on-prem and cloud based applications and networks with Motorola ASTRO 25 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) networks. The candidate will work with the customer and local project team to understand requirements, develop a design, write test plans, and perform the implementation. Other duties include planned upgrades, testing, troubleshooting, and identifying technical issues to be escalated to product development teams for resolution and process improvements.

Desired Knowledge of:

  • Software applications integration, Application Protocol Interfaces (API) concepts, computer operating systems, and the OSI model.

  • Virtualization and cloud computing such as Azure and AWS,

  • Networking protocols and devices including OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, NAT, routers, switches, and stateful packet firewalls.

  • Cyber Security concepts and practices.

  • P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods.

  • Motorola APX-Next and Radio Management.

  • P25 Interoperability solutions such as ISSI and Motorola WAVE, Critical Connect, and SmartConnect.

  • Computer Aided Dispatch and Public Safety related applications.

Desired Experience with:

  • VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems.

  • Scripting with PowerShell, Python, Perl, PHP, JavaScript, Ruby, Groovy, Lua, Bash, etc.

  • XML, JSON, MS-SQL, MySQL, and general database concepts.

  • Network attached storage (NAS) and direct attached storage (DAS).

  • HTML.5 and RESTful API web services.

  • Dell/VMWare EMC Network Configuration Manager, Alcatel 5620-SAM, Nokia NFM-P, and other related network management platforms.

  • HP servers and Integrated Lights Out Management (ILOM).

  • Fortinet firewalls, Nokia 7705 series routers (TiMOS), Juniper SRX/MX (Junos) series routers, HP/Arbua switches, and Barracuda firewalls.

  • Native packet capture between subsystems and analyzing the data with WireShark for debugging API problems.

  • Software development and coding, DevOps, Jira, BitBucket, Confluence, TestRail, Concourse Git, Maven, object oriented programming with Java, .NET, and C++ is a plus.

  • Google Apps platform (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Drive) including automation and scripting with Google Apps Script

  • Remote access using SSH, SCP, SFTP, RDP

  • Working on systems remotely and observing proper security access protocols.

  • PKI, Certificates, and DNS.

Desired Abilities

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot software applications and operating systems on bare metal servers or on virtualization platforms.

  • Debug new software installations, review log files, and work with development engineers to resolve issues.

  • Write scripts and software tools to automate a process.

  • Configure bare metal network devices from scripts or manual CLI and verify correct operation from CLI show commands.

  • Debug and optimize network designs.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, critical thinking, and analytical skills with the ability to seek out other internal expertise when needed.

  • Work remote with no local supervision, take initiative, lead customer facing meetings, work with contractors and vendors to drive results, change priorities with little notice.

  • Work multiple concurrent projects and balance priorities.

  • Excellent communications and technical writing skills with the ability to summarize complex technical concepts clearly and present to non-technical team members.

Desired Certifications, Some or All

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)

  • Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals or higher.

  • Microsoft Hyper-V.

  • VMWare Certified Technical Associate (VCTA) or higher

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Cloud+, Linux+, Server+, Cloud+

  • Nokia Network Routing Specialist (NRS) or higher.

  • Juniper JNCIA or higher.

  • AWS Certifications.


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent field experience and 5+ years of combined application, networks, software integration, and advanced troubleshooting experience
  • OR 7-8+ years of experience combined application, networks, software integration, and advanced troubleshooting experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
