Technical Lead, Data Applications

WHO YOU ARE

As a Data Applications Technical Lead

you design and develop data solutions which fuel business applications and data analytics solutions. You dedicate time to stay on top of the fast changing tech and data management practices.

You keep up to date on industry trends in ETL technologies, relational databases, database tuning and distributed and mainframe computing/architecture.

Furthermore:

• You bring 10+ years of experience with Data Engineering and Data Management

• You are skilled at being both a hands-on and strategic data leader.

• You are close enough to the details to have an extensive understanding of data all the way from source to integration to governance to visualization, but you are also a big picture thinker who can advise clients on their most strategic data initiatives.

• You are capable in detailed design and hands-on implementation of data pipelines, data ingestion and ETL processes that are scalable, repeatable and secure.

• Under the guidance of the architect, implement solutions to support data management strategies fulfilling variety of business intelligence and data analytics needs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will provide day-to-day technical leadership to a team of developers and designers and production support personnel

You are responsible for transforming the design, development, and maintenance of ETL batch computer programs and processes on Oracle and DB2 platforms

You are responsible for requirement gathering, data analysis, designing and developing new (Mainframe, ETL, PL/SQL, Unix) code and enhancing/tuning existing applications

You will participate and advise on data system architecture including selection of new database systems, hardware planning and interface patterns

You will lead and mentor new team members on best practices for software development lifecycle including source code management, coding standards, maintenance of system documentation, test strategies and Production deployment

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Oracle PL/SQL for data engineering

: advanced level experience developing highly performant data pipelines (5+ years)

• SQL: advanced level. (5+ years)

• Unix shell scripting (bash). (5+ years)

• Experience with Data practices and technologies including Operational Data, Master Data, Data Lake, Data Warehousing, data integration patterns (ETL/ELT, services, messaging), analytics and business intelligence

• Professional experience with reporting systems, data pipeline architecture and data modeling

• Experience with modern Data Engineering projects and practices.

• Experience working with Agile methodologies and multi-functional teams (Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, Designers, Data Analysts)

• Strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills with track record of taking solution ownership. Added Advantage to Candidates who Have Experience with:

• COBOL programming on Mainframe z/OS

• DB2 development including batch, CICS, and stored procedures

• Data Modeling including metadata maintenance using IBM InfoSphere and/or Collibra

• Additional database technologies such as Mongo DB, Snowflake DB

• Dimensional Modeling (Kimball/Ross star-schema).

• BI and visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI and Cognos. Additional Qualifications:

• A College or University degree in Computer Science and/or relevant work experience is required.

• Knowledge of programming languages, various business applications, state of the art technology and current trends in the computer industry.

• Knowledge of various application designs and programming techniques is required to develop conceptual system design. Technically competent and focuses on complex applications and systems where expertise is required.

• An expert in a specific skill set but remains focused primarily on daily execution.

• Knowledge of project management methodology

• Effective communication, influencing, and organizational skills

• Must possess initiative to accomplish tasks and make decisions

• Must also have strong analytical and problem solving skills
