Sphera, the former Operational Excellence and Risk Management business of IHS Inc. is a leading global provider of enterprise software and services that enables companies to manage and optimize their environmental, health, safety and sustainability processes. The VP of Engineering

The VP of Engineering in collaboration with the CTO and the senior Product Management leadership team—is responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s engineering processes and the evolution of the software architecture for all of Sphera’s products.  The VP of Engineering reports to the CTO.

 

Responsibilities:
 

The Team 
 
Lead, Manage, and Grow the Engineering Team

Manage a top-flight technology team of over 150 (and growing) software professionals that is responsible for the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of Sphera’s entire product portfolio.

Recruit and Develop the Best Engineering Talent

Work closely with our HR organization to continually enhance our recruiting, onboarding, and training programs to support the continued rapid growth of our engineering organization.

  
 

Our Products and Architecture 

Ship High Quality Software

Work closely with our Product Management organization in defining and delivering frequent and high-quality releases. 

Lead the Progression of Sphera’s Technology Platform

Work collaboratively with the CTO in establishing the vision for Sphera’s software architecture to support the demands of today’s applications and future products.  Lead the team to execute on this vision. 

 

The Department and the Way Software is Built at Sphera 

Lead the Evolution of the Operational Model for the Department

Evolve the department’s standards, policies, procedures, key performance indicators, and organizational structure to support department activity and growth.

Lead the Advancement of our Software Development Lifecycle

Advance and evolve our agile development process and tooling to help our teams stay productive, happy, motivated, and accountable to engineering goals. 

 

Manage Department Finances 
 

Work closely with our Finance team to develop and monitor departmental budgets and financial forecasts.  Be mindful of company funds, but not be afraid to invest in people and technology to evolve the department. 

 

  
 

Qualifications:
 

Experience 
 

15+ years of experience in software development

Experience working in a fast-paced growing software company  Experience managing engineering teams larger than 100 software engineers  Extensive experience with multiple agile frameworks like XP, LEAN, SCRUM, and KANBAN  M&A experience preferred

We are located right off of the Randolph/Wabash L stop in the Prudential Plaza with fantastic views of the Lake Michigan & Millennium Park.
