RESPONSIBILITIES
A Facilities Technician - Automation for UL Solutions Northbrook Campus will integrate, install, repair, optimize and expand heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) controls and pollution control (RTO) systems. Provide consultation to other mechanics, technicians and management; troubleshoot and solve system problems; and work on complex building automation systems to control and maximize company resources. Design and program software, integrate new technologies and manage the allocated budgets for building automation systems.
Skills and Abilities to:

  • Maintain and configure American Auto Matrix and Allen Bradley software, and a demonstrated ability to program networked hardware.
  • Design control systems from complex sequences of operations.
  • Design advanced systems and/or programs related to building automation systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve advanced or complex programming/system problems related to building automations systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve advanced network operation problems at the enterprise level as it relates to building automation systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Write, test, modify, and maintain advanced computer programs/systems related to building automation systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Provide consulting services related to building automation systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Design intuitive front-end interface graphics that display pertinent information for varying types of equipment and processes.
  • Understand advanced construction practices and procedures applicable to building automation and pollution control equipment.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with multiple parties of varying skill levels on a range of complex construction and building automation subjects and pollution control equipment.
  • Translate technical information into user-friendly program documentation.
  • Maintain effective supervisory relationships.
  • Meet multiple and conflicting project timelines.
  • Provide project leadership, mentoring, and training.
  • Interpret processes, flow charts and schematics.
  • Construct contract documents; bid and manage projects.
  • Ability to survey long distances to cover property portfolio required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100lbs assisted and unassisted.
  • Ability to climb exterior ladders and/or use boom lifts at extended heights required
  • Provide effective oral and written communications for successful operations.
  • Follow safety rules and applicable Federal, State, Local regulations and codes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in automation, electrical, HVAC trade.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of building automation systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Universal CFC certification preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a positive team attitude.
  • Ability to safely work independently.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel, on occasion, to other facilities within the UL family of companies when the need arises.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE, specifically half-mask respirators, where/when necessary
  • Demonstrated consistency in values, principles and work ethic.
  • Understanding of and commitment to client service.
  • A desire to work within a diverse, collaborative, and driven professional environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistency.
  • This position requires full time onsite at our Northbrook, IL location
