Accounting Associate

As an Accounting Associate on the PEAK6 Capital Management Finance team, you will help account for and manage the firm’s revenue drivers and cost basis as we continue to expand and grow. This role is very hands-on and “far in the details”, which will help you gain a solid understanding of the components of the business and ensure the firm’s financials and strategy are aligned.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Processing and tracking expense reimbursements, requiring a solid understanding of the firm’s T&E policy
- Processing and monitoring the firm’s direct fixed costs, with a focus on technology and areas of expansion as the business grows
- Understanding and analyzing expenses and their drivers, utilizing the general ledger (NetSuite) to the firm’s needs and requirements for tracking and analysis
- Collaboration with Finance and other functions across the firm to ensure relevancy and accuracy of all expenses and invoices
- Participating in the month-end close processes such as posting/reviewing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, preparing monthly financial statements, and other accounting/finance responsibilities
- Learning daily and monthly trading accounting processes to build knowledge of PEAK6 Capital Management’s revenues and structure
- Assisting Capital Management finance team with projects, including ad hoc reporting and analysis, as well as year-end financial statement audits
- Driving forward existing processes and helping to create efficiencies by leveraging technology
- Managing several tasks, with the ability to shift between priorities as needed
You’ll gain loads of experience in this role but before you do, you should have:
- 0 to 2 year(s) of experience in Accounting experience preferred
- Proficiency in Excel
- Detail oriented approach and ability to work and thrive in a fast paced environment
- Ability to speak up and get your questions answered
- A mindset to want to understand the “how” and “why”, not just the “what”
- A strong desire to partner and collaborate with various teams across the organization
- Basic understanding of principles of finance, bookkeeping and accounting
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
