Actuarial Senior Consultant – Specialty Pricing (Financial Lines)-ACT0000NE
Job Summary
A technical expert consulting on actuarial issues for the Financial Lines business unit, focusing on Management Liability for Public Companies, Private Companies, and Not-for-Profit Entities. Works closely with key business partners and underwriters in the industry and product groups. Participates in the identification, development and implementation of pricing tools and guidance, development and utilization of Primeau (pricing and portfolio monitoring tool), and influences the pricing strategy for assigned products and programs, in addition to strategy for individual large accounts through our Watchlist process. Monitors closely the external claim and exposure trends utilizing 3rd party data, government actions, and 3rd party news aggregation services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs complex actuarial calculations and actuarial studies and develops rates for existing and/or new business.
- Determines pricing strategy for Directors & Officers Liability and Employment Practice Liability as well as analyzes existing pricing tools, modifying or creating new pricing tools, as needed.
- Monitors the profitability and trends for Public Company, Private Company and Not-for-Profit Entities as well as the related management liability products of Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practice Liability, Crime, and Fiduciary.
- Produce highly technical reports and communicate with other analytical staff and management including presentations to senior management; primarily utilizing the Primeau suite of tools.
- Manages project teams and may be responsible for special projects and presentations.
- Facilitates communication and provides technical guidance to Underwriting regarding the pricing of new and/or existing business and partners with other functional groups (e.g., Claims, Finance) on actuarial issues.
- Provides guidance to less experienced team members and may lead and/or participate in special projects.
- Stays up to date in functional area of expertise, on industry trends and developments, and assures knowledge transfer within the organization.
- May review and submit rate filings and contacts regulatory and state agencies as necessary.
- Ensures accuracy of all financial reports and statements, which may include participation in the financial close process.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
- Advanced technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues
- Solid project management, organization, and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and lead teams.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority based on data analyses and reviews.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, R, Tableau, and other business-related software systems, including processing systems and applications, hardware and software tools, programming languages, computer modeling, and spreadsheet applications.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of five years of related work experience.
- Typically has attained their Fellowship accreditation (FCAS).
