Actuarial Sr Consultant (P&C) - Commercial Modeling-ACT0000N9
Technical expert of building, monitoring, and maintaining models for the Commercial Pricing organization. This individual will work closely with the Predictive Analytics area while helping influence pricing strategies for numerous business units and product lines. This technical expert will drive efforts to solve complex issues for the Commercial pricing organization.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborate with Line of Business teams on evaluating the rating plan impacts, helping ensure successful implementation, and establishing regular maintenance of the models
- Collaborate with the Predictive Analytics area on modeling technical and manual premium across Workers Compensation, Property, General Liability, Products liability, Umbrella, Commercial Auto, and Business Owners policies
- Interact closely with business partners to explain technical pricing indications and help support the tactical execution of their business decisions
- Other Projects (e.g. Trend Analyses, Portfolio reviews)
Actuarial and modeling experience is required and successful candidates should have strong analytical and technical skills with a desire to innovate and learn new tools.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Strong technical knowledge of financial, economic and statistical practices, procedures and principles.
2. Works on the development and maintenance of pricing models for various product lines
3. Builds complex models for the purpose of forecasting and analyzing prospective losses under various conditions and their impact on pricing specific lines of business
4. Interprets the results of models in business terms and communicates the contents of the models to business decision-makers. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners.
5. Stays up to date on industry trends and developments in functional area of expertise. Assures knowledge transfer within the organization.
6. Ability to solve problems independently and with a sense of urgency; utilizes and manages all available resources to make informed decisions and achieve superior results.
7. Facilitates communication and provides technical guidance to underwriting regarding the pricing of new and existing business. Works with other areas (e.g., claims, finance) on actuarial issues.
8. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Strong knowledge of actuarial principles, economic and statistical practices, procedures, and principles as they relate to the organization and functional area
2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, programming languages(R Preferred), computer modeling, and spreadsheet applications
3. Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issue
4. Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems, leads through change and takes appropriate levels of risk.
5. Strong communication skills, the ability to balance multiple concurrent projects with shifting priorities, and the ability to work both independently as well as within a team environment.

Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of seven years of related work experience with a statistical modeling background
3. Typically has a Fellowship accreditation (FCAS), and may be working towards Fellowship; may include those that have attained their Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA)
