Job Description
This position is a key partner for the CFO in leading the accounting through Reverb's next stage of growth as well as being a trusted business partner to the rest of the finance organization, the broader company, and Reverb's parent company, Etsy.
We are looking for an experienced Controller who can lead the accounting function and mentor the team. The Accounting team of 9 people is located in Chicago, IL with several remote team members. We seek to support Reverb's growth by ensuring timely, accurate and insightful financial reporting and a strong and sustainable internal control environment. Our goal is to contribute to Reverb at multiple levels by combining strong accounting and business senses, while subscribing to Reverb's mission and values. You will help set the strategic direction of the accounting function at Reverb and lead the group to achieve its goals. You'll provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to your team and you will drive process improvements, manage the team, and partner with the rest of finance and the Etsy accounting team to perform as a unified world class business partner to the rest of the organization. You'll work closely with the other finance teams, including FP&A and Analytics, and our parent company Accounting team, in overseeing the monthly and quarterly accounting close and reporting requirements. In addition, you'll assist in ensuring that the control environment is strong and sustainable, and supportive of the business growth.

You should have experience and expertise in general accounting, technical accounting gained in a combination of public accounting and company experience. This is a full-time position reporting to the CFO. We are open to remote hires within multiple states as well as candidates local to Chicago, IL who are comfortable traveling to an office at least 2 days per week. About the Role:
- Responsible for the overall accounting team strategy
- Develop, manage and mentor the accounting team
- Lead monthly close and reporting process both within Reverb and to our parent company, including annual audits
- Provide strategic and tactical financial assistance and leadership on key business issues
- Build strong relationships within the finance team, as well as cross-functionally in order to support the Company's business needs
- Ensure a strong internal financial control environment
- Ensure timely and accurate research and documentation of accounting matters
- Support preparation of a monthly management accounting package
- Oversee compliance with applicable international and domestic regulations
- Act as liaison and point of contact with parent company's Accounting team
- Develop diverse talent to support retention and champion career development opportunities for your team.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller, preferably for a public company
- Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment (Technology industry a plus)
- 12+ years accounting experience in increasing levels of responsibility, preferably in e-commerce
- BS Degree in Accounting (MBA or MAcc a plus), CPA certification is mandatory
- Strong technical accounting background and audit experience
- Experience in creating operational efficiencies through process streamlining and automation
- Ability to serve as a mentor to help the team develop
- Ability to oversee experienced accounting managers and to collaborate with cross-functional peers and other members of management
- Ability to be a creative business partner to key business leaders in supporting rapid growth
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion
- Excellent organizational, prioritization and process improvement skills
- Experience as a strong, thoughtful manager with an interest in mentoring and leading team members to the next level in their careers
