Job Description:

The Manager, Financial Accounting role will be responsible for all aspects of accounting at Dealer Inspire, a subsidiary of Cars.com. The Manager, Financial Accounting role presents the opportunity to create a scalable financial foundation for a recent acquisition and provide insightful information to management to help the Company achieve its goals.

The role is responsible for standard monthly and quarterly close activities including recording journal entries and preparing account reconciliations, as well as executing and monitoring internal controls related to these processes. In addition, this role will develop financial processes, assist with the accounting integration of Dealer Inspire and Cars.com, create insightful reporting, and interact regularly with senior management of the organization. The Manager, Financial Accounting will report to the Director of Corporate Accounting and Reporting at Cars.com.

Dealer Inspire was acquired by Cars.com in February 2018. It is an innovative technology leader that has been rapidly increasing its market share by providing progressive automotive dealer websites, digital retailing and messaging platforms products as well as marketing services including paid, organic, social and creative services. This role will require travel to office locations in both Naperville, IL and Chicago, IL, but will be primarily based in Naperville.

Responsibilities include:

• Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations as well as other standard monthly and quarterly close activities
• Develop and implement processes for internal controls over financial reporting that will scale with the growing company
• Develop and deliver timely and insightful financial reporting to the Company’s business leaders
• Prepare financial analysis including explanations of variances between actual and budget/prior period and present findings to senior management
• Assist with the accounting integration of Dealer Inspire and Cars.com
• Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly footnote disclosures related to Dealer Inspire for the 10-Q and 10-K filings with the SEC
• Develop cross-functional relationships through-out the organization to understand current trends of the business
• Special projects on an as-needed basis
• This role will not have any direct reports but will work directly with the COO and FP&A Manager at Dealer Inspire as well as the Director of Corporate Accounting and Reporting at Cars.com
• Ability to work in both Naperville and Chicago offices

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Expert knowledge of GAAP accounting
• Strong focus on accuracy and high attention to detail
• Ability to effectively research and compile data from financial reporting systems, databases, spreadsheets, and other data sources
• Knowledge of financial reporting and appropriate skills in financial analysis and reporting
• Ability to manage and balance multiple priorities and urgent requests effectively, with the ability to quickly adapt for changing business needs
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Ability to work additional hours to meet periodic workload peaks and complete assignments in accordance with established deadlines
• Passionate, energetic, approachable with a positive, low-ego, can-do demeanor
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and external parties
• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting
• CPA license
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in publicly-traded companies
• Public accounting experience preferred
