We're looking for an experienced Financial Controller to work directly with our CFO to be responsible for the accounting operations of the company. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The role can be based in Chicago or New York.
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee and manage our Accounting function in general accounting, monthly financial close process, financial operations, A/R, A/P, and tax compliance
- Develop and implement strategies to improve accounting processes for revenue recognition, capitalization of software development, and accounting system configurations
- Partner with FP&A to prepare monthly management reports and assist with the budgeting and forecasting process
- Preparation and oversight of year end financial statements and ownership of external auditor relationships.
- Develop and maintain internal controls appropriate for both GAAP financial reporting and reporting to investors
- Interpretation and application of ASC topics (including 606) and US GAAP
- Assist with cap table management and administration of shareholder’s equity
- Support management with financial information to assist in the decision-making process
- Spearhead ad hoc initiatives to improve current processes within finance and the broader company
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- CPA license required
- 8-10+ years of total experience including public accounting and experience working in an accounting or controllership organization as an accounting manager, assistant controller or controller.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting practices, standards, systems and processes within investment management or technology
- Extensive knowledge of internal control functions and excellent written communication skills with experience writing documentation, reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
- Outstanding leadership skills and commitment to employee development with experience training, coaching, and mentoring team members and others to high levels of performance
- Analytical skills and ability to resolve complex accounting issues in a timely manner
- A proven ability to inspire cross-functional connectivity and collaboration
- Experience in complex, fast-paced, and deadline-driven environments
- Software experience in: Sage Intacct, Toppan Merrill’s Merrill Bridge or Workiva’s Wdesk a plus
