Job Description:

Paylocity’s G/L team takes cutting edge Microsoft Reporting technology and the SQL data access language and combines it with our accounting knowledge to bring solutions to our diverse group of customers.

We are seeking top level project analysts to help bridge the accounting gap between our clients and our programmers.

This is a great role for anyone with an accounting background that enjoys interacting with people!

This position will allow you to leverage your accounting knowledge to gain experience in computer systems configuration and potentially computer programming.

If you bring your knowledge, we will help you get into the information economy!    …and you can do it while working for a company recognized as a Glassdoor Employer of Choice.

Position Overview

Paylocity’s Project services team is responsible for three main functions, system analysis, GL project management, and system maintenance.  They perform a systems analyst role as they consult with our new customers’ accounting staff to develop instructions for our GL programming team to create General Ledger integrations between our WebPay payroll system and their accounting systems.    The team performs a project management function as the initial contact between our customers and their GL system integration project.   Lastly, the team maintains the GL accounting rules for our large client base in our online Payroll/HR system.

While performing systems analysis responsibilities, the Analyst II will perform project management and consulting functions for customers purchasing any of Paylocity’s GL products:

  • Initial client contact to set expectations of dates and information gathering needs.

  • Assisting customers in filling out information discovery documentation necessary to code GL basic projects.

  • Following up with customers to gather additional information as needed

  • Consulting with high level accounting staff at our customer sites to ensure a successful GL Plus or GL Expert project.   In that role, they will learn about the customer’s GL needs, ensure that the rules that are developed are complete and comprehensive, write programmer instructions for the GL programming, and advise on Payroll or GL structure changes needed to satisfy the accounting goals.

  • Gathering information necessary to create an interface file (if required)

While performing GL support responsibilities, the analyst will take customer calls, determine maintenance needs, and configure basic GL rules changes in our GL rules definition system.   They will also get involved in escalated client situations and to determine course of action in more complex maintenance situations.

The most successful GL Project Analysts are highly organized, have prior Accounting experience, have prior payroll experience, have exposure to and interest in project management, and also enjoy client relations functions.   A successful analyst must exude professionalism at all times as they will be representing the GL department in dealings with Paylocity’s GL clients.

We expect a candidate to have the skills necessary to work with customers to define reporting or other custom interface requirements.  We expect a candidate to be willing to learn and use SQL Server Reporting Services.

Performance Objectives/Job Duties

  1. Perform project management for the GL tasks involved in any new implementation.
  2. Call customers to set GL start and completion expectations and define GL requirements for all customers.
  3. Consult with GL Plus or GL Expert clients to develop a comprehensive plan to meet their GL needs
  4. Take calls from customers requesting maintenance to their GL reports
  5. Determine the scope of maintenance requirements
  6. Perform  GL Maintenance work if the scope is limited to GL system configuration.
  7. Other tasks as assigned

Experience and Skills:

    • Accounting skills: Experience in Accounting, specifically experience with journal entries and A/P is required.   This will be the first impression the client will get of the department and likely set the tone of the project so the analyst must be comfortable talking to Accountants about accounting structures and rules specific to each company.
    • Consulting skills:  Some experience in interpreting the needs of a customer, possibly helping develop new solutions, and describing them to programmers is expected.
    • Payroll skills:  Experience with payroll and payroll accounting is required for this position.
    • Customer Service or Account Management Skills:  The candidate must have performed in a customer service or Account Management role at some point in their career.  This is important because the GL department must manage customer expectations in order to be seen as being successful.  We have also found that properly set expectations lead to a significant reduction of expensive customer follow-up calls.
    • Business Analyst skills:  The candidate should be able to interpret the needs of the client and describe them to the programmer for execution.
