Head of Individual Investor Business

The group’s product management, product development, and service teams collaborate to provide clients with relevant products and bundled solutions.
The Role: Morningstar is looking for a Head of Individual Investor Business who will be responsible for building and executing the next chapter of innovation and growth for Morningstar.com, one of the industry’s most trusted and powerful investment resources for retail investors. You will build and execute a three-year strategic plan to cultivate exceptional engagement by retail investors on this marquis Morningstar property, with over two million active monthly users. You will drive meaningful revenue growth by developing new channels for commercialization, directing go-to-market activities and external partnerships to do so – including potential partnerships with robo-advisors and brokers. You will lead a group of existing product managers, marketers, technologists, and subject matter experts to launch a new web-based experience platform in 2021, injecting a vision to deliver an ideal customer experience that thoughtfully leverages Morningstar’s most signature intellectual property. You will bring demonstrated experience in executing and managing direct-to-consumer e-commerce platforms – preferably in the financial space – and will have fluent aptitude with online user journeys and needs. This position is located in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
Establish a bold and ambitious product strategy that addresses the needs of individual investors in the U.S. across varying life stages, including beginning investors
Oversee an experienced product and support team to build and deliver on the product strategy, working closely with leadership from technology, marketing, operations, customer service, design, editorial, and research, motivating the team to execute and deliver results
Own profit-and-loss of the group, with responsibility for driving meaningful revenue expansion in conjunction with the strategy
Communicate strategy, roadmap, and business results to all stakeholders across the company
Ensure the web experience delivers guidance and help to the retail investor in a way that optimally leverages Morningstar’s unique assets in investment research, data, and analytics
Collaborate with peers managing Morningstar’s retail properties in markets outside the U.S.
Qualifications
Be an experienced e-commerce, software, and/or business leader with 15+ years of experience
Be passionate about understanding the needs of individual retail investors and helping them achieve their goals
Have knowledge of investing and Morningstar’s unique assets and intellectual property
Be a natural and hands-on collaborator, manager, and motivator
Have exceptional communication and presentation skills
Have superior business judgement, analysis and problem-solving skills
Have a demonstrated track record of building and executing high-growth digital web and/or software experiences, with multiple years of experience working with cross-functional development squads and retail go-to-market activities
A bachelor’s degree is required; in addition, an MBA, master’s degree, and/or other advanced degree - or the equivalent substantial experience - is required
