The Team: Morningstar’s Finance team is responsible for planning, forecasting, and analyzing the company’s financial results. The team works collaboratively with our business groups to support them with timely and insightful information to make informed business decisions.
The Role: As the Payroll Accountant, you will ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for over 2,500 employees based in the United States. You will also be the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees, human resources, tax authorities, and other outside parties. The Payroll Accountant reports into the Payroll Manager. This position is based in our Chicago office.
+ Maintain all records and reports related to payroll, including quarterly and annual filings.
+ Initiate payroll journal entries and prepare payroll-related reconciliations and understand what makes up the balances.
+ Analyze problems and resolve issues.
+ Resolve payroll issues and efficiently communicate with all parties involved.
+ Stay current of the latest regulatory changes with respect to payroll, expatriate payroll, stock option exercises, restricted stock grants, and relocation packages.
+ Strong organizational and administrative skills are critical.
+ A high degree of reliability.
+ A customer-service-oriented approach is needed as you will be a liaison between the corporate controller’s team, U.S. and international business units, and the human resources team.
+ A Certified Payroll Professional designation, as well as an associate or bachelor’s degree.
+ Candidates without these credentials must have very strong experience in payroll and have strong accounting skills.
+ Two to three years of experience.
+ Knowledge of ADP payroll software and knowledge of Oracle Financials is a plus.
