Role Overview

Located at the corporate headquarters in Chicago, IL, the Senior Accountant, Revenue Accounting reports to the Controller and currently has 1 shared report.  The Senior Accountant, Revenue Accounting is responsible for ensuring revenue is recognized in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, including the adoption, implementation and on-going assessment of ASC 606 for professional services and software-as-a-service (SaaS) contracts.  Additionally, the Senior Accountant has an active role in the accounts receivable function from generating invoices through collections for assigned practices.  In addition, the role is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger and other projects as they relate to revenue and accounts receivable.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the assessment of the impact of ASC 606 on the consolidated business and implements required changes in collaboration with the external auditors and revenue team
  • Researches new and existing current accounting guidance and standards as they relate to revenue recognition and accounts receivable, ensure compliance with GAAP, creates and updates accounting policies in policy memos
  • Ensures client contracts and pricing models are properly reflected in financial systems to ensure appropriate revenue recognition; collectively with the revenue and legal team works to enhance the contract review process to ensure contracts are reviewed and accounted for in accordance with GAAP
  • Participates in full cycle A/R process for assigned practices by generating invoices timely and accurately, completing follow up on outstanding accounts to deliver budgeted DRO, ensuring cash is posted and reported accurately
  • Assists the Controller with financial reporting and revenue consolidation
  • Participates in the independent contractor process from financial onboarding through payment and invoicing to clients - collaborates with A/P, human resources, the revenue team and practice management to ensure completeness and accuracy of this function
  • Prepares and participates in the financial statement audit and completes all assigned account reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Participates in the travel expense reimbursement function as a secondary report approver for assigned accounts to ensure expenses are coded correctly, processed timely and submitted and billed back to clients in accordance with Company policy
  • Identifies, recommends and implements new processes, procedures and financial reporting as necessary to streamline and enhance the consolidated revenue recognition, financial reporting, billing and related functions and/or inputs to the process as necessary

 

Qualifications & Desired Skills

  • B.S. degree in Accounting, required
  • CPA, required
  • 1 – 2 years of public accounting experience a plus
  • Minimum four years of relevant progressive experience as a revenue recognition subject matter expert at a mid-size or larger company
  • Thorough understanding and experience applying the accounting rules governing revenue recognition for services, software and multiple-element arrangements; preference to Professional Services and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) experience; implementation of ASC 606 preferred
  • Experience with full cycle accounts receivable management from contract review through invoice collections
  • Experience managing and collaborating with teams to drive timely and accurate results through streamlining processes, improving controls
  • Strong leadership, communication and customer service skills coupled with an ability to work within a team to embrace and implement change
  • Has exceptional organizational and time management skills, combined with the ability to work under pressure and the willingness to go above and beyond to meet tight deadlines
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Technical accounting systems proficiency in Financial Force is a plus, however in-depth use of any major accounting system/general ledger will be considered
  • Experience with the following systems is a plus – Salesforce, Adaptive Insights, Expensify and/or Concur
