Department OverviewMotorola Solutions, Inc. (MSI), has an excellent opportunity in its Global Corporate Tax Function for a Senior Manager, Domestic Tax Controversy and Global M&A support. This role reports into the Global Head of Tax. The individual in this position will be a key member of MSI’s global tax planning and compliance team that works collaboratively with its business partners worldwide. MSI’s global corporate tax function is based in the company’s Chicago headquarters and is supported by regional personnel in Canada, Europe and Asia.
Job Description
Managing all aspects of the US federal and state income tax audit for MSI and its subsidiaries, including;
Evaluate and defend various tax issues that arise during the audits with the assistance of internal and external technical resources and experts.
Coordinate the gathering and analysis of information and drafting responses to Information Document Requests (IDR).
Manage the timelines for audit progress, IDR responses, and statute of limitations.
Coordinate with other members of the tax organization as issues develop to analyze the potential impact on state income tax and FIN 48 liabilities.
Consult with other members of the tax team on how to reflect the audit results in the tax accounts as well as tax returns.
Provide management with regular updates on the status of the audit and issues discussed.
Manage the state income tax controversy manager and defend various state tax issues that arise during the audits.
Assisting with the tax analysis of proposed restructuring, acquisition, and disposition transactions, including:
Work with the internal M&A team to identify and mitigate tax risk associated with the transactions.
Propose and/or consult on transaction structures and the tax consequences of specific transactions.
Coordinate and manage outside service providers on tax due diligence engagements, and make presentations and recommendations to management on ways to minimize risks identified.
Consult with the internal integration team on the post-close integration of tax activities and responsibilities.
Assist with various special projects, including international tax issues for an outbound US company, non-US income tax audit support, transfer pricing, and legal entity rationalization.
Additional Knowledge/Skills:
At least 10 years of experience (a combination of Big 4 and industry) preferred
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, prefer a Master's Degree in tax or a law degree.
Strong capabilities to think strategically and analytically, identify issues and opportunities, solve problems
Ability to practically apply tax knowledge to produce quantitative models, well-supported tax positions and sound business-oriented tax advice
Experience dealing with IRS Controversy a plus
Experience working with acquisitions and corporate transactions, due diligence a plus
Effective organizational, project management skills and ability to initiate and run projects independently
Effective written and verbal communications skills at both tax technical and non-technical business levels
Experience with CorpTax compliance and tax provision software preferred. Proficient in MS-Word and Excel. HFM, or Oracle a plus
