Staff Accountant

As a Staff Accountant, you will play an integral role with our close and financial reporting process, Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance, and process improvements. This position is based in our Chicago office.
Job Responsibilities• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement schedules, and other requirements for our month-end close.• Research and resolve day-to-day financial reporting issues and assist with the resolution of new or unusual transactions to ensure proper application of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("US GAAP") and SEC reporting requirements.• Provide insightful financial analysis including explanations of variances between actual and prior period results.• Develop and maintain relationships with various members of the organization to implement process improvements.• Ensure continued compliance with internal audit and Sarbanes-Oxley Act ("SOX") requirements and assist with the identification of process/control/automation enhancements.• Assist with internal and external audit requests.• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications• 0-2 years work experience is required.• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.• Understanding of US GAAP and the ability to apply them to business transactions.• Strong organizational, attention to detail and documentation skills, particularly to help with compliance with section 404 of the SOX.• Ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities and deadlines, with attention to details.• Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff.• Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and an aptitude for innovative solutions.• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and assume additional responsibilities over time.• Effectively handle change, identify, and implement process improvements, and problem solve when faced with ambiguity.• Familiarity with accounting software is a plus, including Oracle, FCCS, Workiva, SalesForce, Blackline and Tableau.• Strong skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).• CPA or CPA candidate a plus.
