Job Description
Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Global Tax Operations, McDonald’s is looking for a Manager, State Income Tax Operations to manage execution of McDonald’s state income tax compliance with our service providers, preparation of state income tax calculations and associated risk analysis for the quarterly US tax provision, and responses to state income tax notices/audits with support from internal team members, loan staff and advisors as necessary. Additionally, the Manager, State Income Tax will manage special projects, which will include internal research to support tax compliance, planning and audits, as well as work with other departments throughout the business to provide state income tax guidance in regards to business activities and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Review/preparation of workpapers and returns for state tax obligations
- Proactively identify state adjustments and document conclusions compliant with ASC 740
- Review state income tax returns, estimates, and forecasts
- Respond to tax notices and manage state income tax audits
- Assist in planning the preparation and review of tax deliverables to meet internal and external deadlines
- Prepare/review detailed analysis of state income tax adjustments and confirm the technical merits of the positions
- Participate in various projects, proactively partnering with other members of the Global Tax team, US business team members, and members of treasury, legal and accounting teams,
- Participate in identification and implementation of new technologies and process improvements
- Perform/review tax research and prepare/review tax memoranda to document tax analyses, positions and conclusions, including quarterly documentation compliant with ASC 740 for uncertain state income tax positions
- Monitor, analyze and communicate relevant state legislative/regulatory developments to the tax department
Qualifications
· Proven ability to manage state income tax reporting and audits for a multijurisdictional, multinational U.S. corporation
· Strong tax research and analytical skills
· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
· 6+ years of relevant experience in a corporate tax department, public accounting and /or law firm
· Bachelor's Degree Required
· CPA & Masters in Taxation (or JD equivalent) preferred
· Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting, specifically ASC 740 for uncertain tax positions
· Experience with automated tax systems (such as OneSource), Microsoft software (especially Excel); experience with Alteryx, Power BI or Tableau a plus
· Self-motivator and able to work independently
· Detail-oriented and with strong organizational skills
· Project Management skills a plus
· Ability to meet competing deadlines in a high pressure environment
· Excellent oral and written communications skills for both tax and general business audience
· Work effectively with outside service providers and our financial statements auditor
