We’re looking for spirited engineers who share the same passion as we do for building scalable, intelligent software in a highly collaborative environment. We are looking for back-end engineers. We’re looking for front-end engineers. We’re looking for senior engineers that don't want to be pigeon holed as front or back. There is a broad spectrum of challenges to solve and we want to build a diverse team for the future.

Goods is the fastest growing arm of Groupon today with consistent ~20% year-on-year growth in North America.  We ranked as #9 out the top 10 US multiplatform shopping sites (Aug 2014) on the back of only 7,500 products available for sale -- we have recently grown this to over 100,000 products with plans to double that by end of year.

We’ve got some ambitious goals and are looking to build the team to get us there. Our Chicago engineering team loves to go above and beyond simply ‘coding’. We strive to have a deep understanding of the e-commerce business and also the people involved in the Goods supply pipeline. We find that this leads to better quality software and more great ideas to constantly improve the experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain systems (Rails + ember.js) that house, categorize and update large amounts of product and inventory data.
  • Design and build dashboards and tools (ember.js) for our internal sales staff and also our external vendors, to provide insight and real-time metrics on available inventory and products.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and Business Partners to capture requirements and coordinate demos for constant feedback.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to expand Groupon’s core platforms to meet the growing needs of Goods.

Basic Requirements

  • Knowledge of data structures and excellent coding ability.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment that values testing and good software design.
  • Experience building web services, preferably in Ruby on Rails.
  • BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).

Groupon provides a global marketplace where people can buy just about anything, anywhere, anytime. We’re enabling real-time commerce across an expanding range of categories including local businesses, travel destinations, consumer products, and live or lively events. At the same time, we are providing advertising options and tools that merchants can use to grow and manage their businesses. Culturally, we believe that great people make great companies and that starting with the customer and working backward moves us forward. Community matters to us on an internal, local and global scale—it’s fundamental to our company’s growth and to the well-being of the world at large. We also value self-awareness, candor, lunch and WiFi. If we match with you, please apply to join us.
