The Role
As the Associate Benefits Specialist you will support the benefits function for Green Thumb Industries, a rapidly growing organization of over 3,100 employees. You will be a key member of the Total Rewards and overall People Team. You will be responsible for supporting administration of our benefits programs and annual open enrollment. You thrive in a fast-paced work environment and are excited to learn about employee benefit administration and new systems while executing day-to-day tasks with a high level of accuracy.
Responsibilities
Benefit Administration
- In charge of new hire benefits administration for onboarding
- Oversee offboarding of Green Thumb teammates including the administration of COBRA compliance
- Review and approve qualified life events supported by appropriate documentation
- Process all status changes in the payroll system for employees going part-time to full-time and vice versa
- Ensure any and all benefit premium adjustments are accurately documented for each payroll cycle related to new hires, qualified life events, terminations and employees returning from leave of absence
- Identify employees who are active but not working after each payroll cycle and investigate (are they terminated, in need of leave of absence, on vacation, etc.)
- Review and process medical support orders
- Annual Open Enrollment tracking and support
- ACA monitoring – regularly run reports and identify part-time employees working too many hours/full-time employees not working enough hours
- Support the leave of absence function as needed
Strategy and Partnership
- Support all employee benefit initiatives in partnership with the People Team
- Identify opportunities for process and system improvements within the benefits administration function
Qualifications
- Demonstrates basic knowledge employee benefit programs
- Requires strong communication skills, good writing skills and strong customer service
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products with (advanced Excel experience a plus) and has ability to perform mathematical calculations in computing rates, premiums and adjustments
- Organizational skills to develop/maintain reporting "standards" where applicable
- Must be a problem solver and comfortable working independently
- Must remain open to change and new information and ideas and adapt to the same
- Must encourage and foster cooperation and teamwork
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree required – preferably in Human Resources or related field with an emphasis in business or finance, or equivalent years professional/analytical experience related to the above described duties
- Experience with Kronos or Wurk preferred
- Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information
- Must understand and comply with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of Green Thumb
- Must learn the Cannabis laws, rules and regulations and passion to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry and the laws

- Must pass any and all required background checks
- Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
