The Benefits Specialist will be the front line for the Total Rewards team with regard to benefits administration. This individual is responsible for all day to day interactions in regards to Benefits Administration tasks, interaction with our benefits vendors/carriers and inquiries by our Home Chef employees. 





Benefits Administration:

  • Is the subject matter expert on Home Chef’s benefits programs such as the group insurance and 401k programs.
  • Pinpoints needs, and makes recommendations, for modifications or changes in plan design and administrative procedure both internally as well as with vendors.

Managers the day-to-day administration of Home Chef’s employee benefits programs such as Medical (both fully insured and self-funded), Dental, Vision and Ancillary group benefits:

  • Liaises with Home Chef vendors to troubleshoot administrative and employee issues, and ensure smooth enrollment and termination processes.
  • Coordinates and executes the benefits billing invoice process which include audits, reconciliation before submission for payment and resolving billing issues.
  • Supports key employee benefit initiatives such as open enrollment, benefit communication and 401k education
  • Owns the content and materials for new hire benefit enrollment, including benefits orientation for hourly and salaried employees. 

Provide benefits support directly to employees:

  • Owns the communication to/from the Home Chef Benefits email inbox; serves as the tier one response for all employee benefits questions, researching and partnering with team members and vendors as needed.
  • Explains and interprets more complex aspects of company insurance and other benefits programs to employees and dependents.
  • Assists employees with qualifying life events, claims and enrollment issues.

Compliance and data reporting:

  • Ensures the ACA/1095 reporting process is accurate and timely.
  • Provides vendors and external agencies with data, such as employee census data, required for plan administration and/or by law.
  • Be the first line of data collection for compliance processes such as the annual 5500 filing or 401k audit/testing.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in employee benefits administration
  • Holds self and others accountable Analytical, comfortable with numbers and reporting
  • Able to communicate complex topics to a diverse audience
  • Displays systems thinking, able to link issues that may be interrelated
  • Ability to work independently with direction from manager and others within HR and the company
  • Creative, able to solve business problems and address business situations from multiple angles (comfortable with abstract issues). 
  • Excellent time management and the ability to follow up and follow through to meet tight deadlines.
  • Completion of 4-year degree
