The HR Generalist will fill an essential role in the monitoring and advancement of the daily HR function. Will serve as a true business partner to plant management. Must be able to problem solve and multitask and adapt to a fast-paced evolving environment. Must have a good experience in employee relations and should be comfortable managing in grey areas. Help create and maintain a great place to work through helping leaders manage, resolving conflict, developing people, policies and processes to foster continued engagement. 24/6 operation so coverage at off hours is frequently required.

Our Facility is located in the Cicero area, close to Midway Airport. The HR Generalist will be required to work weekends.

  • Respond to employee and manager requests for assistance on issues relating to policy interpretation, employee conflict, employment law, benefit administration, and other areas managed by the Human Resources function
  • Respond to employee questions and issues (benefits, working conditions, time off, etc.)
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team and facility leadership team on hiring needs.
  • Support Recruiting with interviewing hourly associates, including screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and completing all other pre-employment requirements including the review of background check results.
  • Administer and record employee absence programs, policies, and benefits (vacation, sick, FMLA, disability, etc.), and any required accommodation processes related to disability, religion or other need.
  • Partner with HR Team to deliver weekly new hire orientations and complete onboarding tasks including:
    • Background Check Processing
    • I-9 Processing
    • Time clock registration
  • Benefits review * Process FMLA/LOA requests, including managing ongoing spreadsheet to help keep all claims current and follow up to confirm completion or extensions if applicable. Keep management informed weekly of employee status while out on leaves.
  • Assist HR team during yearly Open Enrollment period and manage New Hire benefit processing to submit elections before deadlines.
  • Support and work with HR Manager for disciplinary actions recommended by management while gathering specifics on details warranting the recommended disciplinary action.
  • Conduct Investigations as needed
  • Identify details/findings with recommended approach to address
  • Support management with performance review process
  • Manage Full Workers Compensation Claims Process between employee and claim adjusters while keeping management up to date on claim status and RTW information
  • Ownership of Attendance Point System and Policy System while working with management team in regards to corrective actions.
  • Manage OSHA 300 and 300A logs for plant and send out to management weekly

What are we looking for in a HR Generalist?

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree a plus
  • 2+ years of HR Generalist experience, (preferably in a manufacturing/distribution environment)
  • Strong employee relations experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law and HR best practices
  • Ability to influence and communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Solid Computer skills (MS Office, Google suite, HRIS/Payroll)
