SMS Assist is looking for a Payroll and HRIS Manager to join our Human Resources team.  This is a fast-paced position overseeing payroll for over 700 employees.  The Payroll and HRIS Manager will report to our Director of Total Rewards.

Core Responsibilities of the Payroll and HRIS Manager:

  • Act as owner of the Payroll portion of the ADP System of Record, ensuring 100% accuracy at all times through direct entry, quality controls, audits, training, etc.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all SMS employees. Identify and train 2 backup people (one HR, one finance) who can run payroll in your absence
  • Provide support for ADP time and attendance and benefits modules, ensuring we are compliant, consistent and up-to-date on functionality
  • Facilitate all aspects of the payroll process and benefits admin processes for SMS Assist employees including maintaining benefits plan details in ADP, making changes as needed, ensuring the system is ready for open enrollment, new hire enrollment, and life event enrollment. Benefits specific needs/questions of employees should be directed to benefits director
  • Process all compensation and employee change actions via HRIS System; including merits, promotions, terminations, and bonuses
  • Track and run reports for management on items such as paid time off and leave time for employees – identify weekly, per pay period, monthly, quarterly, annual reports for key internal customers – configure reports in ADP and set up auto-generation and sending where possible
  • Process termination paperwork in ADP. If entry is delegated, ensure no errors through regular quality control processes
  • Audit and review new hire entries through regular quality control process
  • Process benefits' premium and change information in payroll systems, and interact with third-party benefit providers
  • Track severance payment schedules, sign-ons, commission, allowances, etc. and ensure timely and accurate payment
  • Track health insurance changes by employee for reporting. Run Benefit Change Report during every payroll, and ensure all compensation and benefits actions are accurate
  • Act as the point person for vendors regarding wage garnishments and unemployment claims
  • Train employees and managers on ADP roles and functionality in a regular and timely manner – establish classes and user sheets/guides
  • Assist with plan to move to Employee Self Service and Manager Self Service for Payroll, Time & Attendance, Benefits, and Employee System of Record for SMS employees
  • Coordinate timely and accurate completion of EEO, vets, ACA, 5500, and non-discrimination testing
  • Identify ADP processes to improve manual processes (onboarding paperwork, change of status, COBRA, OE, LOA, including necessary workflow, etc.)
  • Partner with HR and Finance teams whenever needed
  • Other duties as assigned by director of Total Rewards or head of Finance 

Education and Experience Requirements for the Payroll and HRIS Manager:

  • 2-3 years of payroll and/or benefits experience
  • Proficiency with HRIS software as well as Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel spreadsheets
  • Highly refined attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in working with numbers
  • Self-directed, dependable, and a team player
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Adhere to the utmost discretion when handling confidential information- critical
  • Work with minimal supervision, yet ask constructive questions
  • Experience with ADP (Workforce Now) a plus
  • Experience with Great Plains accounting software a plus
  • Experience running payroll and HRIS reports a plus
