About The Role

The Payroll Specialist has one of the most important jobs at Yello - make sure everyone gets paid. In this role you'll be part of the human resources team, and will be responsible for the oversight and management of payroll operations. In addition to calculating and processing payroll, you'll manage the payment of commissions, employee reimbursements and expenses, and 401(k) administration. You’ll be the go-to person for any employee with a question about compensation.

To be successful in this role you must have flawless attention to detail, great organizational and time management skills, and outstanding communication. Effectively explaining to an employee why a change in payroll was made is just as important as making the update itself.

How You'll Make An Impact

  • Accurate, timely and efficient processing of semi-monthly payroll, commissions,  expense reimbursements, and other related compensation expenses through ADP Workforce Now and Time & Attendance
  • Prepare payroll analytics, review metrics, and timely delivery of pay file(s)
  • Prepare all payroll entries which includes but not limited to one-time payments, termination checks, 401K contributions, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with accounting and human resources to ensure proper payroll deductions and reporting for all benefit programs, including 401(k), commuter benefits, ongoing learning reimbursement, fitness membership reimbursements, and Yello’s education fund
  • Assist employees with payroll-related inquiries such as payroll deductions, wage garnishments, child support payments, and employee compensation/commission inquiries
  • Manage all employee information in our HRIS (ADP Workforce Now), including processing new hire paperwork, status changes, and terminations
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of employee data and files to ensure compliance
  • Assist with compensation projects, such as participating in compensation surveys or running reports on employee compensation trends
  • Manage the administration of employee 401k rollovers, withdrawals, and loans
  • Prepare documentation for of the annual 401k audit and Form 5500 preparation
  • Reconcile W-2 forms to ensure accurate entry of all compensation
  • transactions (i.e. bonuses, equity, etc.)
  • Effectively serve as the main contact for all payroll related matters for the auditors
  • (workers comp, 401k, etc); including accurate and timely preparation of and explanations for all audit-related requests
  • Conduct verifications of employment
  • Understand and document the end to end payroll processes, and actively look for ways to improve our processes
  • Assist with ensuring Yello is compliant with State and Federal laws

What We're Looking For

  • 2-4 years of experience managing the payroll process
  • Experience with automated human resources and payroll systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, human resources, or relevant work experience
  • Flawless attention to detail is a must
  • High level of integrity and experience dealing with highly confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially the ability to explain complex concepts simply and succinctly
  • Demonstrated ability to document procedures and improve process
  • Experience researching complex tax and payroll law issues
  • Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Mostly sedentary work requiring the ability to talk, hear and see and involving repetitive activities such as typing, but the nature of the position requires the ability to move around the office quite frequently

NICE TO HAVES

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and ADP Time & Attendance
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and reporting
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment
