What We Do and What You'll Do:

The tastytrade family of companies (tastytrade, tastyworks, dough, quiet foundation, and The Small Exchange) empowers individual investors by providing educational media, intuitive and powerful trading software, high-speed order execution, innovative derivatives products, and portfolio guidance. The diversity of our offerings and the technology which powers them provides our engineers with exposure to a broad set of tools and the opportunity to dig deep into specific problems. We are an ideal environment for those who are self-motivated, engineering-focused, pragmatic, and who truly enjoy creating and operating large, highly-available, and performant systems. Our team is lean at roughly 35 members and we follow a management philosophy which values the autonomy of our engineers.

At tastytrade | tastyworks, you’ll be embedded with the team of designers, engineers, and product managers who build out the technology which powers our retail brokerage business. In this role you'll build foundational understanding of our technology stack and product domain that allows you to communicate effectively about the roles and opportunities available to candidates and networking contacts. You'll be responsible for managing our in-house recruiting efforts, grass-roots efforts to build awareness of the company's engineering organization, and helping to manage various aspects of the engineering employee experience including onboarding, training programs, and team events.

Your recruiting efforts will start with the engineering team(s) and branch out into other departments as you get acclimated. Our current recruiting strategies include utilizing large-scale job listing sites (e.g. LinkedIn, Stack Overflow) for both active listings and passive candidate outreach as well as college career fairs and community events.

Responsibilities

  • Follow a defined process and manage a pipeline for recruiting and hiring software engineers, infrastructure engineers, UI / UX designers, product managers, and customer representatives
  • Work with the technical leadership team to iteratively improve on the existing recruiting process, including tracking and reporting on the effectiveness of our recruiting strategies and the effectiveness of your passive outreach efforts
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospects through the outreach, interview, hiring and onboarding process
  • Work with engineering leadership and broader company leadership to ensure active search priorities are aligned with hiring priorities
  • Represent the company at various community developer events, job fairs, university recruiting activities, and charity functions in order to build a network of possible candidates
  • Maintain a conference and training calendar for the engineering team, including identifying opportunities for our team to speak at conferences or meetups
  • Help the engineering team manage utilization of the conference and training budget
  • Help build an engaging, challenging, and attentive internal engineering organization by organizing social events (in person and remote), helping to gauge team morale and engagement and providing feedback to help make the organization more attractive to potential candidates
  • Be a liaison between external technical teams & experts and our own engineering organization and culture
  • Other duties as required in the broad scope of the job

Prerequisites

  • You must be friendly, approachable, likable, a good listener, and a good team player
  • You should be comfortable striking up a conversation with strangers, listening to their responses, and remembering details about them
  • Ability to determine personality fit of a candidate with the organization based on in-person (or over video) and written interactions
  • Willingness to learn both the business domain and build technical understanding in order to speak with authority about them to potential candidates or outside industry contacts
  • Availability to attend events outside a standard business day, as necessary
  • Preference given to candidates with a 4-year College Degree from an accredited school (BS, BA, etc)
  • Preference give to candidates with prior recruiting or sales experience

Extras:

  • Daily catered lunch
  • Full kitchen with snacks and beverages
  • Dog-friendly office
  • Park-like roof with games and herb garden
  • In-building gym

  • Located in the West Loop--Chicago's growing center of tech, great cuisine, and high-end bars

Environment:

We are an entrepreneurial, flat organization which values transparency, productivity and the ability to self-manage our work and business.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We will not discriminate against any employee or job applicant on the bases of race, creed, color, national origin, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Nothing in our job postings or descriptions should be construed as an offer or guarantee of employment.

An Insider's view of IGNA | tasty

What’s the vibe like in the office?

We’re in a fast-paced industry, but no matter how busy people get, no one’s ever too busy to help a colleague out. We’re surrounded by smart, driven people and the collaboration amongst the teams is the reason why we are constantly growing. Plus, there’s free food and puppies to get you through the day!

Mo

Project Manager

How does the company support your career growth?

Because we're on a relatively small team, I feel I'm able to make more of an impact. I often see features I've worked on reflected on the platform in real time: Something that's incredibly satisfying. And best of all, I get to learn from ridiculously talented senior engineers who have become not only mentors, but also close friends.

Div

Senior Software Developer

How does your team reward individual success?

I've been privileged to be involved with tastytrade since its launch and I'm constantly amazed at our growth and what we continue to accomplish as a group. New ideas are encouraged which keeps everything fresh and exciting on a daily basis, which I think is extremely rare in the financial industry.
