The Compensation Senior Consultant is an individual contributor role with a high level of technical expertise in compensation. Researches, analyzes and resolves compensation issues, ensures compliance, and makes recommendations for modifications to compensation programs to meet business objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Drives compensation strategy and programs by providing compensation consulting services, insight and guidance to HR Business Partners and other internal clients on compensation issues and trends. Resolves complex compensation issues to ensure consistent application of corporate compensation policies and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Acts as technical resource for both broad-based and specialty areas of compensation (e.g., executive compensation, expatriate compensation, etc.).
- Conducts job evaluation, market data research and analysis, participates in salary surveys, custom market surveys, the development of compensation guidelines and policy, and makes recommendations to management based on findings.
- Contributes to the design, implementation and administration of incentive compensation plans (annual, long-term, sales) and may be responsible for the maintenance including supporting software applications. Also may be responsible for applicable training and support to end-users.
- Facilitates training and education for HR Business Partners and business leaders on all aspects of compensation.
- Manages vendor relationships with external partners for ongoing software system and ad-hoc consulting projects.
- Provides coaching and informal leadership to less experienced compensation staff.
- Stays up-to-date on trends and developments within compensation, as well as the insurance industry.
- Participates in compensation association and industry functions.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Advanced technical knowledge of compensation theory, practices and applicable laws.
- Strong knowledge of human resources theory and practices.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
- Strong consultative, facilitation, and project management skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- In-depth knowledge of compensation software applications and the ability to effectively provide system administration and end-user support.
- Proven organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other business related software.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Professional designation (CCP) preferred.
- Typically a minimum of seven years of experience in human resources, financial or related area.
