Discover's Data and Analytics Internship Program offers exciting 8-12 week paid internship opportunities for highly motivated individuals who are interested in exploring a host of disciplines within Discover. Participants will work on challenging initiatives in a sought after work environment and culture. Individuals selected will be matched to projects across the enterprise, in the many different business areas/disciplines within Discover business units, including Consumer Banking, Corporate Risk Management, Credit Operations, Payments Network, and US Cards. They will be challenged to exercise and expand their critical thinking and problem solving skills, working alongside proven leaders on projects and strategic initiatives aligned with Discover's high-priority goals.
Participants can expect:
- 8-12 week paid internship aimed at aligning personal talents with business initiatives
- Challenging and impactful work assignments that support Discover’s strategic priorities and objectives

What You’ll Do
As a Data Engineering or Data Science Analyst, you will be:
- Responsible for working closely with management to execute analytical initiatives.
- Develops reports & dashboards; generates insights through analytics and identify opportunities for improvement while continuing to developing a strong understanding of the business, the underlying data used for analytics and analytical techniques.
- Responsible for designing and developing data driven platforms and next generation analytic technologies
How You’ll Do It
- Formulate mathematical or simulation models of problems, relating constants and variables, restrictions, alternatives, conflicting objectives, and their numerical parameters.
- Perform validation and testing of models to ensure adequacy and reformulate models as necessary.
- Collaborate with senior managers and decision makers to identify and solve a variety of problems and to clarify management objectives.
- Present the results of mathematical modeling and data analysis to management or other end users.
- Collaborate with others in the organization to ensure successful implementation of chosen problem solutions
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in analytics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or related field
- Current enrollment in an accredited 4-year College or University
- Must have a graduation date between December 2022 - June 2023
- A minimum of a 3.0 GPA on 4.0 grade point average scale, in major field of study
- This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate ideas into clear priorities
- High energy and intellectual curiosity
- Strong analytical skills and a consultative approach to addressing customer needs
- Strong business acumen, knowledge of financial industry, risk management, and business metrics
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, R,
- Proficiency in visual data management, i.e. Excel, Tableau
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems creatively
- Ability to apply previous experience and knowledge to new situations and problems
- Operates as a team player
