Business Operations Analyst Intern, Summer 2019

| Chicago

Are you passionate about data? Can you find and solve problems we haven't discovered yet?

Groupon’s mission is to become the daily habit in local commerce and fulfill our purpose of building strong communities through thriving small businesses by connecting people to a vibrant, global marketplace for local services, experiences and goods. In the process, we’re positively impacting the lives of millions of customers and merchants globally. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success.

The Business Operations team bridges the operational and product sides of Groupon, using a strategic mindset, analytical thinking, and operational horsepower to drive business value from our product and engineering investments. With an alignment to specific product areas such as search, conversion, customer engagement and more, they develop the knowledge and insights that fuel our product strategy & development.

As an intern on the Business Operations team, you'll partner with Product Managers, Engineering, Marketing and Sales to identify and drive strategic and operational improvements that deliver sustainable lift to the organization. You’ll apply your expertise in quantitative analysis and the presentation of data to understand how users interact with Groupon's offerings. You’ll also quantify the value & size of new opportunities to inform and prioritize product roadmaps.

We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. We're curious, fun, a little intense, and kind of obsessed with helping local businesses thrive. Does that sound like a compelling place to work?

As an intern, you should expect:

  • Exposure; Being a household name gives employees the opportunity to work in startup-like environment and focus on deeply interesting work that you wouldn’t get to do anywhere else - prepare to make a large scale impact in a short amount of time

  • Professional Development; Participate in weekly “lunch and learns” with other engineering and business functions, skill building workshops, and networking sessions

  • Fun; Explore the area through our planned intern social outings, and develop your network while getting to know your peers and Groupon’s leaders

  • Mentorship; Look forward to one-on-one time with dedicated managers and mentors to facilitate your growth throughout the summer internship experience

You’ll spend time on the following:

  • Develop & test hypotheses to explain both macro and micro trends and opportunities in the business

  • Design both the business logic and the technical specifications required to extract key data elements from Groupon products

  • Create dashboards to display and communicate product performance towards achieving product goals

  • Review product performance, advise on areas of opportunity, and analyze A/B testing and other experimental data to measure the impact of new features within our platforms

  • Develop effective statistical models for segmentation, classification, optimization, and more

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Currently enrolled in a BS or MS program with a focus on business operations, engineering, analysis and strategy

  • You're passionate about data, product development and e-commerce

  • You are able to effectively convey complex information to a broad audience

  • You’re able to work collaboratively in an environment that promotes constant team communication

  • You're a creative problem solver who can identify problems unilaterally and recommend effective plans of action

  • Strong organizational, planning, quantitative, and problem solving skills; strategic and creative thinking with keen business judgment, focus, and ability to see the "big picture"

  • You can translate business objectives and problems into analytic problems, and analytic solutions into actionable business solutions

  • You are skilled in both Excel and SQL

Groupon provides a global marketplace where people can buy just about anything, anywhere, anytime. We’re enabling real-time commerce across an expanding range of categories including local businesses, travel destinations, consumer products, and live or lively events. At the same time, we are providing advertising options and tools that merchants can use to grow and manage their businesses. Culturally, we believe that great people make great companies and that starting with the customer and working backward moves us forward. Community matters to us on an internal, local and global scale—it’s fundamental to our company’s growth and to the well-being of the world at large. We also value self-awareness, candor, lunch and WiFi. If we match with you, please apply to join us.
