Signal is looking for a few good summer interns to join our engineering team in our Chicago office. We are looking for talented people who write great code and want to work on interesting things with a like-minded smart, innovative and driven team.

Our Signal summer internships are paid, and will run for 10 weeks beginning in early June.

If you’re conscientious, driven, and most of all, passionate about code, and want to get real world-experience at a high-growth company, keep reading.

So, what would you be doing?

Depending on the team you’re paired with, it could be any of the following:

  • Putting your HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Backbone.js/React skills to work on our platform’s front-end.
  • Working on a distributed system hosted on AWS.
  • Writing tests.
  • Participating in code reviews.
  • Experiencing life at a growing tech company.
  • Getting the opportunity to collaborate with experienced developers.
  • Learning and having fun. Experiencing the awesomeness that is Shark Week and our demo days. Want to know more? Read our Code to code by.

What do we need from you?

  • You’re working toward a degree in engineering or are a recent graduate from an accelerated engineering course.
  • You love to code!
  • You have a sense of curiosity and the desire to always be learning.
  • You have a strong work ethic – you dive into the work, and love problem solving.
  • Must be available to work M-F, on-site at our Chicago offices, for 10 weeks from June through August.
  • Bonus points if you’ve interacted with a relational database or can share any special development projects you’ve completed on your own time.

Outside the obviousness of the job, like all Signalites you fall in love with new ideas, can’t stop learning, and are a pretty nice person on top of all of it. You get that even the most fun kind of work is work, consider putting in the hours an obvious necessity, and easily deal with change. You think well beyond what’s asked of you, live and breathe the minutiae of the work.

Insider's spotlight

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

One of the best parts about working at Signal is the flexibility. I am a busy mom of two, with tight timelines and clients and team members in all time zones. I feel lucky that somehow, I still get to spend time with my family, and find time for myself.

SVP Global Client Delivery

What projects are you most most excited about?

As developers at Signal, we’re given the opportunity to be creative and tackle interesting problems. We work in a challenging domain, but are given the freedom and flexibility to solve problems in new and creative ways, with the best tools and technologies for the project at hand.

Engineering Manager

How does the company support your career growth?

I was hired as an apprentice at Signal because of my potential and drive to start something new. Since then, I’ve been able to scope, work on and lead my own project, and it hasn't even been a year since I started! I'm eager to see where I go from here.

The summer outing is a highly-anticipated event. Last year, it was an Amazing Race-inspired competition with a booze cruise as an epic final destination. It’s fun to partner with Signalites I don’t normally interact with at work, and learn who they are outside of the office.
