Job Summary
This officer level position is responsible for leading the Law Department’s support for CNA’s Commercial and Consumer Products (CCP) division within CNA’s Warranty business unit. This position is responsible for providing a wide range of legal and regulatory support for the CCP division, including: providing legal and regulatory advice on programs and business opportunities relating to warranty products, extended service contracts and contractual liability products and services; reviewing, drafting and revising program administrator, master services and other business agreements. This position will also be responsible for providing strategic legal guidance and advice to senior management on other CNA Warranty businesses and business opportunities for growth. Work assignments consist of major legal tasks involving complex issues and facts for which considerable legal judgment, experience and independent reasoning are required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Implements strategic objectives with substantial impact on the short-term success for legal support for service contract/warranty industry.
- Responds to inquiries regarding business practices and evaluates possible resulting legal implications related to area of expertise.
- Provides legal support in area of expertise to assist assigned business lines or functions in business decisions and strategies.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Typically VP and above
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- In-depth technical knowledge of theories and practices within contract law, vendor license agreements, insurance regulatory matters, insurance litigation management. Working knowledge of insurance operations.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment.
- Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to drive results by identifying, and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
- Knowledge of the industry, its products and services.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree with JD and a license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction preferred or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum 10 years practical legal work experience in key specialty.
- Applicable certifications preferred.
