Index Licensing Manager

The Group: The Index business is responsible for the creation and distribution of Morningstar’s Index Intellectual Property. The group develops new, innovative indexes for use by asset managers and asset owners in serving their client’s investment needs. The individuals in the Index group thrive to ensure that we meet Morningstar’s high standards in developing indexes to satisfy a wide range of global clientele.

The Role: The Index Licensing Manager position will report to the Managing Director, Index Operations. The selected candidate will take responsibility for all index licensing agreements and regulatory reporting compliance. The position will be responsible for managing licensing agreement reviews and re-contracting for Morningstar’s Index business. The position will also be responsible for maintaining the internal Index Oversight Committee process, IOSCO compliance reporting and EU-BMR reporting. This role will require working autonomously supporting market data licensing with sales, product managers and other internal stakeholders across the Index business.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for working with all Index sales and product associates to review contracts in line with project review, communication and renewal procedures
  • Preparation of termination letters and new contracts based on templates, including development of templates where necessary
  • Responsible for addressing internal and customer comments in a timely manner to ensure licensing agreements are executed in a timely manner
  • Reporting and recording progress to the project team and escalating queries and issues as they arise
  • Report indirectly on Index licensing and regulatory issues to the Morningstar legal team in the appropriate regions


Requirements:

  • Paralegal or junior lawyer who has in house experience in a dynamic sales focused environment
  • Bachelors degree with a JD preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in index data licensing and familiarity with regulatory processes
  • Experience in drafting commercial agreements and understanding of contract law, primarily in the US
  • Experience in managing and reporting on similar contract projects
  • A self-starter with a team spirit-an individual who is pragmatic, flexible, and creative
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
  • Must be detail oriented, with strong organization skills; must be able to work well under pressure by managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines in an open office environment
  • Excellent MS Office skills
