Plans, supervises and owns the activities of a group of legal support staff individuals and/or administrative functions. Responsible for assigning, monitoring, reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts, coaching, training, development, and performance of team members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Leads team meetings, presentations, trainings, discussions, huddles, open forums (both virtual and on site).
- Develops and engages team members through collaboration, coaching, training, stretch assignments, and feedback.
- Manages team members’ schedules, authorizes PTO requests, ensuring coverage to meet business needs.
- Assigns, distributes, coordinates, monitors, and supervises the daily work activities of staff.
- Leads, coaches, and mentors work groups and coordinates/facilitates training and development, while mobilizing others to deliver optimal results.
- Enforces existing procedures/processes and implements improvements when appropriate, to manage expenses and maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Performs complex legal administrative support on day to day operational matters for our Litigation Counsel offices and takes necessary steps to resolve same.
- Participates in complex and other special projects.
- Prepares and distributes management reports.
- As necessary may be responsible for the day to day coordination and routine administration of office technical support resolving or escalating issues as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned
- May require some travel.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
1. Ability to effectively lead, coach, and mentor legal support staff.
2. In-depth understanding of defense litigation, a legal office environment and legal terminology, lines of business, court rules in multiple venues, as well as knowledge of the organization and insurance industry.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate and effectively interact with teams, peers, leadership, and internal/external business partners.
4. Strong change management and organizational skills, with the ability to appropriately prioritize and simultaneously coordinate multiple projects.

Education and Experience
1. Bachelors Degree with paralegal certification or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum four years related experience.
3. Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.
