Senior Manager, Government Relations - Central

DoorDash is hiring a proven leader to help build our government relations team. You will guide our government relations strategy in the Central United States, executing an ambitious agenda and making an immediate impact on a fast-growing, dynamic business.

Based out of our Chicago office, you will cover 23 states and report to the Head of Government Relation.  You will work closely with the public policy and communications teams, as well as with departments throughout the company, to design and execute our government relations strategy. You will build relationships with state and local elected officials and policymakers, and make DoorDash’s presence felt in city halls and the state capitals.

• Craft and execute DoorDash’s legislative and political strategy at the state level with a focus on the Central United States.
• Build relationships with legislators, governors, and other elected officials and staff
• Represent DoorDash at legislative and regulatory hearings, including by providing testimony  
• Participate in trade groups and industry associations on behalf of the company
• Work with other members of the policy team to mobilize the Dasher, merchant, and customer communities in support of DoorDash’s political strategy 
• Work with Comms and Marketing to design and execute effective public affairs campaigns 
• Collaborate with policy development leads to craft policy solutions that serve business needs while meeting political realities 
• Manage external political consultants 
• Coordinate with counterparts at peer companies to build effective coalitions 
• Coordinate with industry trade associations to maximize their impact

We’re excited about you because…

• You have a BS or BA from an accredited university
• You have 6+ years of experience serving in government at the state level or working directly on public policy issues for corporate clients
• You thrive under pressure and have a proven ability to achieve hard-fought policy outcomes 
• You have a deep understanding of government relations, including effective lobbying strategies, grassroots organizing, and the mechanics of policy-making
• You are a strong strategic thinker with polished written and oral advocacy skills
• You are organized, collaborative, and have a bias for action
• You are willing to travel frequently
• You’re a self-starter; you’re intrinsically motivated but also a good teammate

Bonus Points

• Government and in-house experience
• Direct policy experience in employment/labor law
• Significant state-level experience, particularly in California
• Experience in the tech industry, particularly the on-demand economy
