What You'll Bring
This role reports to the US Privacy Lead in the Legal function, but works across various internal functions. The position supports and enhances the efforts of Global Technology, Global Solutions, and Data Acquisition.
J.D. and 6+ years of relevant experience as an US privacy attorney
Expertise in US privacy and data protection laws such CCPA, COPPA, BIPA, and state data breach notification laws required
Keen understanding of the changing landscape of US privacy laws, regulations and guidance, including new comprehensive state privacy laws in Colorado and Virginia required
Experience implementing the intricacies of US privacy laws, particularly in financial services or other highly regulated industry, preferred
Experience negotiating privacy-related language in customer and vendor agreements, including service provider addenda
Demonstrable understanding of how privacy laws impact, and are impacted by, technology
Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
Ability to communicate difficult legal concepts, anticipate potential objections and persuade senior business leaders to adopt a different point of view
Ability to foster relationships and become a trusted business partner
High level of ethics and integrity in professional matters, sensitivity for confidentiality, and respect for individuals
Detail-oriented with proven organizational skills and analytical ability; Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work well under time pressure under limited to zero oversight
International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) CIPP or similar certifications are preferred
Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite; PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Word, and Excel
Maintain and grow a meaningful professional network
Impact You'll Make
Serve as subject matter expert for US privacy laws, including data breach notification laws
Monitor regulatory developments in US privacy law. Support senior business leaders in assessing the impact of US privacy laws, including comprehensive state privacy laws in Colorado and Virginia
Advise the US Privacy Law Operating Committee on the implementation of new US privacy law requirements
Serve as a member of the data incident response team in assessing the potential impact of data breach notification laws
Provide subject matter expertise to legal colleagues in negotiating privacy-related language in customer and vendor agreements, including service provider addenda
Draft, update, and regularly review privacy notices, policies and procedures as necessary. Review and approve privacy training as necessary
Execute on strategic plan to advance and continue to mature the privacy program to comply with upcoming US privacy laws and best practices
