Join the frontlines of today's healthcare transformation

At VillageMD, we are committed to helping patients achieve greater health by delivering accessible and efficient healthcare through our own primary care clinics and partnership with primary care physicians. We're in a unique position to impact everyone in primary care from independent, family-owned practices to world-class health systems. As part of achieving this goal, the Marketing and Communications team is the expert in telling our organization’s story in a consistent and disciplined way and creating the tools necessary for our employees and partners to consistently support and amplify our brand message. Integral to the team, the Senior Director of Communications will lead the development, implementation, and measurement of our internal and external communications strategy. This is a high exposure role with an acute focus on demonstrating value to our employees and partners through sharing creative ideas and collaboration on critical projects.

You will support organizational growth while formulating creative solutions to touch our current and prospective employees, clinical staff, investors, and consumers in meaningful ways. Building reputation, brand awareness, and trust will be critical in this role as we continue to expand across various channels on a national stage. Experience developing strategic content to drive staff engagement, culture, and organizational growth will be key to success in this role. Ability to navigate within ambiguity, a service orientation, and a high level of humility are all requirements for successful assimilation into our highly collaborative, entrepreneurial culture.

While this role will be dynamic in nature, key responsibilities of the Director of Communications include:

  • Developing and executing a proactive and strategic internal and external communications strategy with plans to grow brand awareness, brand recognition, loyalty, and cultural affinity to VillageMD and Village Medical across traditional and digital media channels
  • Ensuring communications strategies and programming support other business stakeholders – HR, Talent, Business Development, Finance, Government Relations – so that our brands are strong and equity in them builds over time
  • Supporting the development of an employee value proposition framework and the related programming to drive our talent funnel and acquisition goals
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to drive a consistent approach to internal communications to foster employee awareness and engagement
  • Building content, messaging frameworks, forums, and other programming artifacts for all-employee, culture-building initiatives at scale
  • Leveraging your existing network and knowledge of the healthcare industry, position our thought leaders as experts who are regularly called upon to address industry topics
  • Developing a crisis communications strategy that accounts for our geographic disparity and the various crisis scenarios we could encounter as our organization scales
  • Leading relationships with agency partners to deliver high-quality and timely communications that support the business and communications priorities
  • Collaborating with senior colleagues on key messages
  • Aligning all agency work with overall corporate and communications plans
  • Drafting speeches for leadership to deliver at internal and external conferences, speaking engagements and industry events
  • Identifying awards to submit for consideration – both for the organization and its leaders
  • Providing a high level of service and support to the business; successfully integrating into the corporate services and market operations team, and taking a partnership approach to getting things done
  • Internalizing business and market feedback to inform and if necessary, adjust strategy execution

What will make you successful here?

  • You have high emotional intelligence, the ability to forge meaningful relationships, and can successfully navigate diverse stakeholder groups
  • You are highly collaborative, yet skilled at influencing others to achieve results
  • You are experienced performing under pressure with a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and a commitment to doing what you say you will do
  • You are solution-oriented and have a passion for being hands-on in problem-solving and execution
  • You are self-starting and maintain a high sense of urgency and accountability in delivering measurable results in line with agreed upon timeframes

What you bring to VillageMD:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, communications, public relations or a relevant field required
  • A minimum of 10 - 15 years of progressive business experience; recent experience in a communications leadership role
  • Healthcare experience and public company experience preferred
  • Exceptional writing skills and a proven track record of garnering media placements
  • Proven track record of formulated and executing communications plans and related tactics that drive business and employee engagement goals
  • Ability to mobilize resources to achieve results
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence; can integrate with a team, engender trust and leverage relationships to get work done
  • Proven project management skills evidenced by the ability to effectively coordinate multiple vendors and resources, meet deadlines, and adhere to budgets
  • Hands on approach including strong command of details
  • An optimistic outlook and “can do” attitude
  • You have a keen focus on results, and can navigate within ambiguity while maintaining a high-level of humility
  • Ability to travel as needed to our markets; anticipate 25% travel initially, but could fluctuate based on need
