Upwork’s CRM team is looking for an enthusiastic Email Marketing Manager with hands-on experience with the Email channel, technical and analytical chops and a can-do attitude. You will be responsible for the design and execution of complex life cycle and trigger programs that improve the user experience and drive customer activation and retention. You will have proven success building, managing and analyzing a variety of complex dynamic email nurture programs as well as customer contact strategy ideally in a Responsys setting.

Responsibiltiies:

  • Manage daily operations of the email marketing channel – marketing calendar, creative design, execution and deployment of email campaigns
  • Build, manage, analyze and optimize complex CRM lifecycle programs in Responsys
  • Manage template designs, content, and targeting strategies to activate, engage and reactivate clients and freelancers
  • Collaborate with the Creative Design team to determine content strategy, lead copywriting process, ensure brand guidelines are followed in emails
  • Own A/B Testing roadmap, ensure implementation of A/B tests, readouts, scheduling, implementation in Responsys
  • Regularly report email performance, build dashboards, use data to continuously test, measure and optimize email marketing programs
  • Identify impactful business problems and translate them into structured analysis and actionable insights
  • Own technically intense recommendations emails by understanding the end to end implementation with respect to data, templates, development and QA with the ability to recreate such emails as well as fix any bugs that arise from time to time
  • Collaborate with data science and analytics team to develop sophisticated frameworks for email list segmentation and optimization
  • Partner and collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, product marketing, customer success, creative design and analytics teams
  • Automate nurture programs, ensure end-to-end tracking and proper measurement
  • Manage freelancers to ensure efficient execution of email marketing operations
  • Ensure all email campaigns comply with current email best practices, CAN-SPAM, and data privacy policies

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • 5+ years experience in email strategy, production, marketing operations and analytics
  • Experience with major ESP Email Service Providers is a must: Responsys Interact experience is strongly preferred; other email campaign tools will do.
  • Fluency in HTML/CSS – proficiency in responsive email design and cross-browser rendering

  • Strong data and analytical skills, ability to think strategically and make recommendations
  • Intermediate understanding of IT infrastructure and SQL databases with the ability to analyze data on your own to make decisions
  • High attention to detail to QA emails and program operations
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with effectiveness, accuracy and efficiency
