Ocient is a data analytics solutions company headquartered in Chicago, IL, enabling rapid analysis and management of the world’s largest datasets. Over the past five years, Ocient has built an ANSI SQL compliant analytical database for Petabytes and beyond datasets that is 10s to 100s of times faster than competitive OLAP databases. We sell data analytics solutions that run on industry standard hardware for use either on-premise or in the cloud.

We’ve been growing rapidly and are currently looking for an entrepreneurial Marketing Manager to support a variety of foundational, high-impact initiatives across the company. This role will cover research, planning, project management, content management and collateral creation across digital, search and social platforms, and be responsible for supporting key PR initiatives to drive profile building for the company. We are looking for a candidate who can collaborate across departments to deliver cross-functional results that promote our revolutionary technology to customers and prospects, industry influencers, prospective hires, and current employees.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this role provides a unique opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to high visibility projects at a very exciting time for the company. Our ideal Marketing Manager is self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate about working with highly technical engineers, product managers and enterprise sales executives to communicate Ocient’s value proposition and key messages to a verticalized set of customers. They are highly organized and possess strong writing and presentation skills. Most importantly, our Marketing Manager will thrive in a startup culture, be curious and eager to learn, drive and manage multiple projects at once, and have the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the organization as we grow.

Responsibilities: 

  • Strategy & Planning – contribute to the conception, development and implementation of our marketing strategy & plan

  • Research – research and provide insight, recommendations and planning for Ocient’s presence across digital, social, search, PR, speaking, events and awards​​

  • Resource Management – build and manage Ocient’s editorial calendar, speaking opportunities, awards, webinars and internal marketing library updates

  • Content & Community Management – create and/or manage the creation of strategic marketing materials including sales collateral, award entries, email newsletters, social content, and SEO; manage Ocient’s social communities and website content updates

  • Event Support – plan and manage logistics for external-facing customer and influencer events, spanning virtual, small-scale dinners and roundtables, and trade shows

  • Paid Media Coordination – coordinate and manage day to day social, search and digital media, including flighting, reporting and performance analysis

Qualifications: 

  • 3– 4 years of experience in marketing, preferably at a data warehouse, data lake, data analytics, and/or tech/enterprise IT company

  • Ability to write and edit complex and detailed technical information to drive Ocient’s thought leadership in the industry among customers and industry influencers

  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and generate impressive results in a fast growing company

  • Ability to be creative while demonstrating a detail-oriented mindset and strength in project management

  • Strong collaboration and relationship building skills across multiple levels and functions within and outside of the organization 

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and strategic thinking when solving problems and tackling new challenges

  • Experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing databases, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns

  • Solid knowledge of website and marketing analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, NetInsight, Omniture, WebTrends, SEMRush, Marketo, Hubspot, Pardo, SFDC, etc.) 

  • BA in communications, journalism, or related field

  • Strong communication and presentation skills
