About the Team:

Our Corporate Affairs team develops and implements strategic communications and public relations strategies, tools and tactics to help raise awareness of the Lottery, build brand strength, promote winner stories, and showcase the Lottery’s contributions to special causes in Illinois. Our goal is to create a personal connection with the people of Illinois. Working as part of an integrated team of marketing, social media and digital communications professionals, Corporate Affairs supports the company’s overarching objective to re-establish the Illinois Lottery as a leading brand within the state.

Position Overview:

Within Camelot Illinois, the Public Relations Manager leads efforts to remind Illinois residents that the Lottery gives everyone a chance to win but, more importantly, guarantees that they are contributing to the common good. A key element of our brand strategy is to ensure that we are encouraging people to believe in “what if” and “why not?” and that when they play they are part of something so much bigger. The Public Relations Manager is the Lottery’s chief storyteller for winners and works cross-functionally to ensure that compelling stories are told through earned and owned media channels.

Responsibilities:

Winners awareness PR and storytelling

  • Develop and implement the Lottery’s winner awareness program to increase win belief statewide, and act as the relationship manager for lottery winners.
  • Conduct outreach to, and serve as primary contact with, Lottery winners to gain their participation in winner awareness activities.
  • Develop and implement PR strategies to promote winner awareness through digital, social media and video content that features winners – beyond their “winning moment.”
  • Plan and host outreach events that promote and generate content to showcase Lottery winners and contributions to good causes.
  • Develop and implement tools to track and monitor high-prize winners to create a consistent pipeline of winner stories.

Promote the Illinois Lottery brand

  • Support the Director of PR to breathe life into the Illinois Lottery brand through the development of innovative consumer PR.
  • Help to source stories and develop content to promote the Lottery’s role in generating funding for education and other good causes.
  • Help to significantly increase the brand presence of the Illinois Lottery through earned and owned media.

Stakeholder relationships

  • Serve as day-to-day contact to the Illinois Lottery to draft and issue all earned media communications.
  • Proactively pitch members of the news media to place winner stories and other stories about the Lottery’s contributions to good causes.
  • Serve as liaison to and maintain proactive communications with Lottery Claim Center managers throughout the state to maximize winner PR opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the development of integrated communication campaigns to support business objectives and act as the key PR contact on projects.

Media monitoring and website

  • Produce daily media reports and maintains media lists.
  • Manage Camelot Illinois website.

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Five plus years of public relations, media relations or communications experience.
  • Previous experience in a similar communications or public relations role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of AP style.

Preferred:

  • Ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects while delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, flexible, self-reliant, problem solver, results-oriented.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
