Department OverviewThe global communications team is the voice of Motorola Solutions, bringing to life the company’s rich history in innovation and commitment to technologies that keep communities and businesses safe, productive and thriving. Our customers are everyday heroes – from police officers and firefighters to utility workers and educators – and we proudly tell their stories through thoughtful campaigns that span earned and owned media, thought leadership and stakeholder engagement.
This position is an opportunity for a skilled communications professional, with a passion for storytelling and media engagement, to help drive external communications plans and programs across North America. This team member will report to the head of North America Communications.Scope of Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of strategic external communications plans that drive key storylines with reporters, investors and other key audiences.
Build and maintain key media relationships and pitch national, regional and trade media outlets.
Create well-crafted, concise and highly engaging communications including pitches, press releases, blog posts and other tools needed to tell our story.
Serve as a strategic business partner to sales leaders and teams with a focus on building relationships and gathering insights that can be used in messaging and media pitching.
Partner with product and marketing teams to integrate PR activities into product campaigns.
Support media monitoring, measurement and crisis communications.
Manage communications activities at and around priority North America trade shows
Specific Knowledge and Skills
Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills
Media savvy and passion for media relations; hunger for securing top-tier coverage
Strategic thinker who can build a network, gather information and translate it into communications plans and materials that generate coverage and clear results
Strong judgment and the ability to make decisions independently
Serious commitment to excellence, quality and attention to detail
Ability to work with a variety of media, meet tight deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously and adjust as circumstances change
Skilled at exerting influence, as well as collaborating, navigating and managing at all levels
Bachelor’s degree; journalism, communications or English majors preferred
3-5+ years of experience with a corporate communications department, PR agency or in journalism
