This individual is responsible for leading the Maintenance Department (focused both on plant and equipment) at three production facilities located in Chicago, Lithonia (outside ATL), and San Bernardino (outside of LA) efforts while developing local maintenance teams, and collaborating with other senior operations leaders. In addition to maintenance the person will be responsible for complying with regulatory issues related to the plant (business licenses, OSHA, EPA, etc.), and will have responsibility over employee safety. The successful candidate will provide the technical link between maintenance functions and production needs.


Responsible for building world-class mechanical and preventative maintenance team that will keep production equipment in excellent condition, keep lines running at high efficiencies and maintain proper stock of parts. Also, the position is responsible for Ammonia safety for a 10K+ ammonia system in the Lithonia plant.


On a regular basis, meet with the Operations Department and Safety Department to review KPIs and equipment maintenance issues with overall goal to maintain high up-time.


Create, plan and execute preventative maintenance programs


Maintains time and maintenance records, estimates, requisitions and inspects materials.


Responsible for ensuring equipment uptime by quick in-depth trouble shooting and repair of all equipment failures. Working knowledge of facility (water chiller, air compressors, volumetric filler, tray sealer, check-weigher, metal detector, box erector, box taper and conveyor system, etc), and general maintenance of building.

Detailed Description:

  • Troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic systems using schematics and technical drawings.
  • Help spec out and procure equipment, fixtures, systems, conveyors and other equipment at facility as required.
  • Repair equipment, fixtures, systems, conveyors and other equipment at facility as required.
  • Modify, lubricate, diagnose, and operate equipment. Maintain industrial control system.
  • Work independently and with other team members to complete repairs timely and safely.
  • Create and report repairs at end of shift. Complete required paperwork, document parts and material usage.
  • Understand and follow plant safety rules including safe lifting practices and safe machine operation. Personal Protective Equipment is to be used where required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Engineering & Plant Manufacturing Maintenance.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of processing, packing, and utility equipment designs to effectively lead technical resources to successfully maintain equipment to achieve high levels of productivity.

  • Prior experience with maintenance management required.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be results oriented.
  • Must possess good problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, all levels of management,
  • vendors, contractors, and customers.
  • Must have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be capable of thinking through situations & have forward thinking to resolve issues.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Must promote and maintain a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Must lead by example at all times (no safety violations, use proper PPE, show up to work on time,
  • etc).

Working Environment

  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures; inside 35 degree F food production facility, outdoor/attic temperatures of 100+ F.
  • Must be able to work on and around machinery and chemicals.

Competencies

  • Mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical experience required.
  • Experience within the food processing and packaging industry preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • OSHA training & certification is a plus.
  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Gmail
