APPLICATION ARCHITECTURE & RI/ITDD ARCHITECT MANAGER

The Applications Enterprise Architecture Lead (IT Architect Manager I-II) will lead a team of architects to develop IT Roadmaps for their accountable application domains (Product Engineering, Distribution, Manufacturing, Sales, Supply Chain, Logistics and Procurement) and will serve as a trusted IT strategy advisor to Enterprise Architecture’s executive customers (Group CIOs, Federated IT leaders, Global Information Services (GIS) IT leaders). The Application Enterprise Architecture Lead will be specifically aligned with the RI (includes ITDD) Group CIO as their trusted EA advisor. He/She is a direct report to Caterpillar’s Chief Architect (Enterprise Architecture Director)
JOB RELATED STATISTICS:
· Internal customers spend potential on IT enabled initiatives is approximately $2.5B+ for business facing and $200M+ for GIS facing
· Capability Domains covered are: Product Engineering, Distribution, Manufacturing, Sales, Supply Chain, Logistics and Procurement
· Personnel management:
o Manage 7 experienced Application Enterprise Architects
o Maintain a community of 40+ Application Architects across Caterpillar
JOB DUTIES:
· Customer service and relationship management – Manage the EA engagement with executive stakeholders of the Architect Manager’s domains
· Business aligned IT roadmaps for strategic initiatives – Create a 3 to 5-year view of how IT will achieve CIO selected Business and Technology Strategies for the Architect Manager’s domains. This includes the conceptual architecture and business case for each project within the roadmap to achieve the desired business outcomes
· Portfolio analysis – Provide insights on all business aligned IT roadmaps across the company on where we could improve value (speed to market, reduced cost, etc.) by leveraging assets across the enterprise
· New technology introduction – Identify new disruptive technologies to provide business value at Caterpillar
· Solution development – Provide solution option development including IT vendor selection support for selected, complex business or IT capability needs. In some cases, this could include managing a proof of concept or proof of technology
· Governance – Provide decision support in accordance to the EA facilitated governance processes (Architecture Review Board, Architecture & Security Review, Peer Reviews)
· Accelerator development – Create position papers, standards and patterns that can be leveraged by IT delivery organizations to speed up and improve the quality of solution designs. This includes education and stewardship of a matrix architect community embedded in IT delivery teams
· Coach and manage a team of Enterprise Architects to accomplish the above listed responsibilities. This includes:
o Following the standard Caterpillar HR processes in hiring, developing and evaluating employees
o Work planning and assignment to achieve goals
o Budget management
Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties occasionally as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
· Must have a minimum Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred
· 15+ years of experience in information technology planning and operations, architecture design and deployment, information systems design and development, systems lifecycle management
Desired Qualifications:
· Team leadership, management and budget responsibility experience required
· Leadership experience of a major IT strategy program (selling idea, executing strategy development, successful transfer of organization for realization of strategy) such as Portfolio Rationalization, Application Strategy development, large scale IT enabled Transformation Business Case development
· Demonstrated excellent planning and organizational skills with an established track record of positively influencing change
· Excellent verbal and written communication as well as presentation skills
· Experience using Enterprise Architecture tools (e.g. Troux)
· Familiar with project management methodologies (Waterfall and Agile)
· Prefer candidates with architecture certifications (TOGAF or similar)
LOCATION
· Driving distance to East Peoria, IL including Chicago, IL or vicinity
· If remote to East Peoria the job will require 50% travel, otherwise, less than 10% travel
