Announced in May 2018, Peapod Digital Labs is an Ahold Delhaize USA company that will serve as the engine that powers U.S. ecommerce and digital strategies. Peapod Digital Labs will accelerate growth in digital and personalization capabilities for the great local brands of Ahold Delhaize USA and will serve as the innovation lab for the U.S. portfolio of companies, driving digital and eCommerce innovation, technology and experience to meet the changing needs of customers of Ahold Delhaize USA’s local brands, regardless of when, where and how consumers choose to shop. Peapod continues to be a consumer-facing eCommerce brand and is part of Peapod Digital Labs, focused on growing Peapod sales to consumers. 

Part of Peapod Digital Labs is the Fulfillment Strategy & Services department. This department provides day to day operational services to the e-commerce operations across each of the US brands, like delivery routing, on-road support, inventory forecasting, operations field support and demand management. In addition, the department provides support improving the business in the form of project management, continuous improvement and business analytics.

Lastly, the Fulfillment Strategy team supports the brands in developing their individual local fulfillment strategy, including network expansion modeling, as well as overall company strategy for fulfillment: how to develop and improve our portfolio of fulfillment models, what is the best way to improve throughput and efficiency, including considering options for warehouse automation, and what capabilities need to be developed or added from an IT systems perspective.

Recipe for Success - What's “in-store” for the role

Within the Fulfillment Strategy team, we are looking for a manager of Fulfillment Automation Strategy. This role will the subject matter expert for all things related to (warehouse) automation. Several emerging trends in e-commerce, like Micro Fulfillment, are rapidly changing the landscape, and are looking for someone to help us stay current and ahead of the game when it comes to automation. This role will be responsible for keeping an up to date outlook of what technology is available on the market, as well as defining key table stakes to evaluate the applicability of certain solutions, then developing a pilot model for a solution, and implementing and evaluating such pilots.

• Actively maintain knowledge of developments and innovations across the market
• Investigating and pursuing new innovations to determine applicability to PDL/ADUSA operations
• Determine the viability and fit of solution providers and/or system integrators by in-depth screening using pre-determined criteria, including financial viability, as well as cultural and partnership aspects
• Determine functional use cases for automation solutions
• Develop financial business cases for automation solutions
• Work with PDL and/or RBS IT to understand requirements from an IT perspective to automation solutions and to integration efforts
• Evaluate the efficiency of solutions.

• Good communicator

• Evaluates and recommends changes in methods or procedures
• Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
• May be responsible for the overall success of function or project.

Extra Spices - What you should bring to the table  

• Typically 5-8 years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of Key Abilities and Knowledge as presented above.
• Track record of successful delivery of cross-functional projects
• Bachelors' degree preferred
