Role Description

The Director of Clinical Documentation is responsible for strategic leadership on accurate, specific clinical documentation for the organization. The Director will work cross functionally with clinical leaders and population health team members to implement strategies, optimize programs, enhance training, and manage compliance audits on clinical documentation. This role will manage 2 direct reports in the short term, with continued expansion, as needed, to support initiatives. The Director of Clinical Documentation will report to the VP of Population Health.

 Core Responsibilities 

  • Work cross-functionally to create, execute and maintain high impact programs for coding documentation, education, and compliance to support accurate and specific clinical documentation in accordance with CMS guidelines

  • Identify, using data-driven approaches and analytics, key initiatives to improve accurate and specific clinical documentation

  • Maintain communication channels for relevant stakeholders across the organization on progress and areas of opportunity across clinical documentation

  • Elevate clinical documentation reporting by introducing a cohesive clinical documentation and streamlined set of reporting packages that inform trends and highlight areas of opportunity on RAF

  • Maintain the CMS risk adjustment model for risk score calculations in partnership with the Business Intelligence team

  • Optimize data ingestion (HIEs, Particle, EMR data) to create a comprehensive view of the patient by the second visit 

  • Maintain the organizational knowledge base related to documentation, coding changes, and financial impact. Ensure compliance with Medicare standards.

  • Orchestrate ongoing meetings with field population health and clinical leaders to help identify areas of opportunity for clinical documentation and partner on a path to improvement

  • Launch a standardized comprehensive training program on clinical documentation for providers in partnership with Medical Director partners, central leaders, and external subject matter experts

  • Lead the organizational clinical documentation compliance program

  • Other duties, as assigned

 

What we're looking for

  • Experience working in the Medicare risk adjustment space 

  • Demonstrated strategic and analytical problem-solving capabilities, including experience with modeling / forecasting (e.g., consulting / private equity or equivalent)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to make high-level strategic decisions, while also maintaining close attention to detail

  • Experience problem-solving, making decisions and delivering impact in a fast-paced environment ("scrappiness")

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally to drive initiatives forward

  • Proficiency in Excel required; familiarity with programming languages and/or Tableau or Alteryx preferred 

  • Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree (MBA, PhD, MPH, etc.) preferred

  • US work authorization
