Director Commodities and Energy Products

The Role: The Director of Commodities and Energy products is responsible for setting the vision for growth of Morningstar’s Commodities and Energy product suite, setting a comprehensive product strategy including product roadmaps and go-to-market activities that support the Morningstar’s Cloud P&L’s financial goals. The Director will be responsible for setting the budget and managing toward financial goals successfully. The Director will lead a team or professionals that are responsible for client success, product development, research and will party closely with technology, marketing and support to achieve shared goals.
The Director will lead Morningstar’s efforts in this space and as such should have a strong knowledge of clients, and trends impacting the banks, utilities, hedge funds and oil companies that make up our client base. The candidate will have strong managerial skills and a demonstrated ability to partner with shared capability teams to deliver results. The position may require travel up to 20% of the time and is based in Chicago.
Responsibilities
• Define the vision, roadmap and growth plans for the commodities and energy business and deliver on all facets of these areas to meet the organization’s financial and developmental goals.
• Lead a team of product managers, client success managers and researchers and work across those groups to create a suite of products and experiences that meets the needs of our clients.
• Formulate the budgets and KPIs for the organization and own the achievement of these metrics.
• Establish a framework and a shared operating model that supports growth at scale by partnering with centers of excellence including technology, sales, design, marketing, and client support.
• Develop a high-functioning organization that adheres to supports Morningstar’s core values
• Partner directly with sales to grow the business, evolve a product suite based on client needs and support key client relationships.
Requirements
• 10+ years of experience in the software development, enterprise data management, or commodities and energy markets
• Experience leading commercial product teams related activities including forecasting, go-to-market planning, sales enablement and delivering on an aggressive product roadmap and financial targets
• Leadership experience and proven success at effectively leading teams in a matrix/shared capability environment
• Knowledge and experience with Agile development, and good technical acumen are plus.
• Knowledge of Morningstar products and the markets they serve is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and analytical skills.
• Must be able to work under tight deadlines across multiple teams and locations
