Role Description:

The Director of Safety is a critical leader charged with bringing this vision to life. The Director is a proven leader and purveyor of safe clinical practices. The Director demonstrates both experience and passion for improving the integrity of organizational safety practices and has a working knowledge of state and regulatory standards and guidelines. The Safety Director leads the charge in creating a culture of safety through program creation and development, trend assessment, education and resource delivery planning, and care team engagement. They use standard of care and infection control metrics to lead Oak Street, a company committed to redesigning health care for the Medicare population, to ensure safe clinical practices and environments.
Core Responsibilities:
Grow and Enhance a Culture of Safety:

  • Build a team to support the growing safety program infrastructure to align with our clinical model, state and national standards
  • Improve the integrity, and promote the prioritization of patient and team safety in centers
  • Develop and foster relationships with key partners throughout headquarters and within the centers
  • Foster a culture of positive event/safety incident reporting
  • Prepare for and support the accountable leader(s) with safety incidents and act as a reliable source of knowledge and leadership as events unfold
  • Be accountable to improve patient safety functions and assess growth opportunities as they present
  • Lead patient safety working groups including the safety committee, root cause analysis, and clinical walkthrough reviews
  • Partner with provider cohort to lead positive safety culture
  • Create and support delivery of safety education
  • Deliver routine communications related to upcoming safety initiatives and trends
  • Drive a culture of safety by engaging leaders and staff in safety initiatives and campaigns, and communicating trends and opportunities for focus
  • Launch patient safety campaigns to promote awareness and best practice to relevant topics (falls, infection control, etc)


Support Program Improvement:

  • Facilitate the creation, maintenance, and updates for safety related Standard Operating Procedures
  • Identify process, workflow, infrastructure, and or training gaps make recommendations for improvement
  • Lead implementation of best practices, and approved improvements
  • Other duties as assigned


This role reports to the Vice President of Clinical Support.

  • Patience and the aptitude to educate across all levels of the organization, demonstrating the ability to be both direct and empathetic when identifying areas for improvement
  • Engaging passion for patient safety who can meet teams where they are, recommended next steps, and motivate positive change

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 1 year of healthcare leadership experience required
  • At least 1 year experience in the development and/or implementation of safety programs required
  • At least 3 years in patient safety, Infection Control, or Risk Management strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Docs applications
  • US work authorization
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time
  • US work authorization
