Job Description
The Director, Global Head of Payments Industry Relations will lead the organization trusted to fulfil leadership positions in industry bodies and direct the participation of subject matter experts across Discover Global Network in those groups. With a broad and growing remit of current payment products as well as emerging technologies related to commerce and payments,
the individual will define the global strategic road map of industry engagement, balancing broad trends with regional nuances. Further, this key leader will synthesize the external engagement and insights into actionable positions and recommendations to be developed with functional leaders in Product, Government Relations, Investor Relations, Legal and others.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement global strategy to build alliances and represent Discover at senior levels within industries related to payments, commerce and emerging technologies. Determine how to structure industry coverage including which industry bodies to de- emphasize over time and where we should engage where we haven’t been before. Create differentiating regional strategy for engagement that recognizes regional nuances, and create regional coverage in multiple global locations as needed
- Create sphere of influence with subject matter experts and extended cross-department staff that will fulfil participation on industry committees and working groups
- Research and analyze industry developments. Design scenario development & related responses. Develop frameworks for analysis of complex issues to arrive at a balanced external position
- Support the development and execution of an internal engagement strategy ensuring industry developments are effectively communicated across internal teams, including Product, Legal, Government Relations and regional teams
- Provide timely coaching, feedback, and direction to employees to help them develop their capabilities and enable them to perform to their potential
- Direct daily operations of department, establishing priorities, developing standards and setting deadlines. Manage team by providing guidance and overseeing strategy. Works with team on support of requests for new services or coverage. Manage team providing executive support on expansion, executive reporting and budgeting
- As part of the senior Innovation and Emerging Product (IEP) team work collaboratively to support broader IEP strategies
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Technology, Social Sciences or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in Technical Product Development or related fields
- 10+ years of experience in key payments standards and specifications in the areas of chip, authentication, data, IoT, and others
- In lieu or education requirements, 15+ years of similar experience is required
