The Role 

The Director of Retail Operational Compliance is responsible for setting and championing the compliance strategy in a highly regulated cannabis industry for the retail dispensary stores. This role leads a diverse team of remote field and office-based staff in the development and implementation of strategies to maintain regulatory compliance, reduce risk, shrink and control losses, ensure the safety and physical security of stores, proactively address issues, drive policies and protocols, and implement best practices.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead cross-functional teams to continuously improve all aspects of regulatory compliance and security programs.
  • Supervise Security Manager, Regional Security, on-site compliance managers and contract guard force.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Retail and Field Leadership teams, as well as corporate partners in all areas of the maintained business including Regulatory Compliance, Legal, Finance, Store Development, IT and HR
  • Manage all operating plans, state regulatory guidelines and loss prevention practices, policies and procedures applicable to the retail business to ensure they are updated, document controlled, and changes are communicated as needed.
  • Manage Retail employee training program to ensure dispensary employees have the tools and education to perform their duties.
  • Work with new store opening team to ensure dispensary is prepared for final inspection and licensure.
  • Oversee on-site compliance managers to complete comprehensive monthly internal audits and inventory reconciliation on time and with accuracy.
  • Oversee employee badge new application, renewal, and tracking process for Retail sites.
  • Foster and develop functional partnerships with industry and law enforcement resources.
  • Oversee maintenance and monitoring of all security and safety equipment including, but not limited to, burglar/fire alarm, security camera, and access control systems, lock and key control, and other physical security programs.
  • Prepare and deliver business updates, performance metrics, project status reports and other complex information in various formats, including verbal, written, presentation, etc. Tailor the information to the appropriate audience.
  • Lead the data intelligence effort to identify Key Performance Indicators, exception reporting, or other analysis that is used to drive predictive and proactive compliance management strategy and execution.
  • Proactively develop, analyze, and monitor reports to identify root causes and resolutions of inventory control issues, shrink, and other losses and control failures.
  • Identify any location and market-specific factors affecting regulations, inventory, shrink and other losses while actively engaging leadership.
  • Maintain deep subject matter expertise of industry trends, regulatory compliance matters and relevant retail knowledge both inside and outside of Green Thumb.
  • Work with Regulatory Compliance and People Team to initiate and coordinate internal and external theft investigations and corrective actions.
  • Manage the execution of capital and expense purchases within budgetary guidelines.
  • Help foster a culture of honesty and accountability through positive informative communications and messaging.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications  

  • 10+ years of experience in a highly regulated retail industry with multi-location responsibilities, with at least 5+ years in Loss Prevention and 3+ years in a corporate setting
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related discipline preferred
  • Intermediate MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project) required
  • Good working knowledge of Google platforms, alarms, CCTV systems, case management software, exception-based reporting
  • Project management and team leadership experience a plus
  • Comprehensive understanding of retail network systems and processes
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to execute and drive results
  • Strong networking skills, internal and external

Additional Requirements 

  • Must pass any and all required background checks  
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry  
  • Must possess valid driver’s license 
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age 
  • Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry
